Rep Power: 0 oh how i do love it when people who don't know what they are talking about start arguing (does not pertain to everyone here but definetly to a few people). ok, automatics HAVE A SPEED LIMITER, manuals DO NOT HAVE A SPEED LIMITER. automatics have a speed limiter that is set to 112 mph, on both LX and EX. manuals have a fuel cutoff that prevents them from revving too high. there have been documented (pictures) cases of manuals exceeding 125mph. granted, this does take a while to reach due to our weak engines. it is possible to have your speedometer to display the wrong MPH due to different size wheels, i don't exactly remember the calculations and **** for that, so ask someone else. anymore questions? SEARCH BUTTON THEM, thank you.

Rep Power: 0 I've brought mine up to about 127, but then backed off cause I started to get scared cause I was hearing a noise. But the manuals do NOT have speed limiters, only rev limiters.

Rep Power: 375 how many threads like this must be started? gah.
as always and the answer always will be.
the civic is governed dependent upon it's tire rating. the fastest of these, being the civic EX, that comes with H-rated OEM tires. therefore, BY FEDERAL LAW, the car must be governed at a speed equal or lesser to it's OEM tire rating.
so the EX is limited to around that 130mph mark. end of story. for those who say the EX is not limited at all, you're simply wrong. Federal law dictates otherwise. so unless honda has decided they'd rather break federal law, your civic is governed, like it or not.

Rep Power: 0 if im not correct, it depends on the tire specs of the vehicle from the factory..
they wouldnt let you be able to travel 130 on tires rated for 100...
my old 95 civic dx shut off at 112. and after the rechip i went 124....down a slight hill
now im limited by my redline...

Rep Power: 0 Will if it magically happened that you hit 130mph, please share it with us, how about a DIY on this subject, after reading threads for over 3 hours all everyone has is guesses and ideas, somebody tell me how to make this actually happen like poof-done, the only thing that I can think of is that its too hard-too complicated- and nobody has tried it yet, & just to calrify the EX's don't have this problem, its just the 01-05 Dx & LX models, my friends 97 4door LX does not have this limiter, and he can take his family sedan past 115, than why can't my newer model civic coupe do it, I know it can handle it, its just how do I do it so I don't blow my engine in the long run???

Rep Power: 0 I can tell you right now that it will top out between 112-115, you don't need to go that far, with the video and all that, its not a big mystery-I think everyone here knows for the last time that the EX's 01-05 don't have the limiter and all the DX's & LX's do 01-05, including yours.... For the guy talking about cutting the speedometer wire, is this something you've tried and have concrete proof, or are you just guessing??? When mine cuts off, you can tell the fuel is getting cut off, & this is probably controlled by the ECU, but what triggers the ECU, is it the speedometer, is it the rev limiter in 5th gear, or is it something else.....I NEED TO GO FASTER!!!!!!

Rep Power: 0 That is what I am starting to think- and this cuts off the fuel supply, so why aren't the EX's setup like this, they are not that much faster, with what I have done to my LX, I have smoked every EX I have came across, the VTEC in the EX is beneficial but it is not a night & day difference if you have it, anyways us Dxers and Lxers must join together like VOLTRON and figure this ish out.....
