Auto trans problem ?

Hi !

I have an 2004 auto Civic w/ 14500 km, so it's like new.
I think I have a problem w/ the tranny. When the car is
cold, (like soon in the morning or at night when I quit the
job), when I press the gas pedal, the car start going forward
and about 1/2 second later, it jerk, like if the tranny is slipping
and than go normally. It does that until the car is hot. When
the car is hot, it work the right way.

I talked of that w/ my Honda dealer and they say that I may
have a problem but I don't thrust them anymore since they put
to much oil in my motor (1/2 l.)

I don't do neutral drop to D (never happened) but I like
to floor it. I already searched but I would like to have fresh
comment/ inputs about that situation.

Thanks,
Philippe

that is normal. When you start your car when it has been sitting for a long time and the engine is cold, when it shifts from first to second it will jerk, or a better saying, the shift will take longer. That is because everything is cold, I wish I could explain it better, but once it warms up, it is fine. You dont have any problem.

Ok but it doesn't happen when the trany shift
but when I'm completly stopped and I gas it.
It happen before 5 km/h, way before it shift
to 2nd speed. (I can clearly hear it w/ the HKS)

Do you think that it's still normal ?

Sorry for bad spelling, I hope that you understand.
Philippe.

just take ur car to honda (if its under warranty). My tranny blew at 15,000 miles without neutral dropping ect.. not even driving full throttle a lot. Maybe honda reliability isn't all that anymore, a lot of people have had their share of problems with the 7thgen

I havent had any problems. I am at 90k miles and no problems with the tranny or engine. I have even had water enter the engine and tranny and that didnt even hurt it. I would say hondas are damn well reliable.

i would just let it warm up longer. Since our cars are ULEV, it doesn't really take up that much gas when the car idles anyways. See if that helps, if not just take it to another dealer and get it fixed.

Your running nitrous on a auto? How long have you been doing? Hows the tranny holding up? I always thought Nitrous+ auto = dead tranny

Is it possible that the tranny is low on fluid...Maybe when it warms up the fluid expands and creates better lubrication, and thats why it shifts better? Just a theory.

i think its the fluid. CHANGE IT QUICK.

I had the same problem where i would slow down for a stop sign but not completely stop. With the car still moving slowly, if i were to press the gas, the car would jerk. I changed my ATF fluid 3 times already and i only have 50,000 miles.

It does make a difference!!! especially for stop and go city driving.

That stopping thing is probably due to the fact that when your doing normal driving, say in 3rd, and then come to a stop sign without fully stopping (rolling stop... its a fail for your driving test here in ontario ), the tranny might still be in in third. When you step on the gas, the tranny has to downshift twice which takes time, more if it is cold.

at least you admit that you do neutral drops but most here will think your for doing it.

either stop doing neutral drops, or start doing more of em, and get honda to replace your tranny while its still under

I replaced my tranny at 28,000km no neutral drops

Thanks guys for your help...

With all these comments, I think
that my tranny is OK. It's hotter
outside and it seam that there is
no more "jearking" from cold start.

I will change the fluid sometime next week.
I will buy some Honda brand ATF to be safe...

By the way... 1/2" or 3/8" for the wrench size ?

how many miles? i had an 02'...yes i did neutral drops, i got I/H/E, but got it replaced after 33,000 miles under warranty. hopefully yur still under warranty. otehrwise yur SOL dude, u need a new tranny. soon enough yur car wont GO. if its under warranty u need to yank that NOS out of there cuz i think that might void it.

Try either you completly went through your clutch pak already or your fukered up your torque converter. Either way no body should neutral drop a auto that is stock or you will be walking. Even modfied auto's break.....take it from me I blew up a TCI small block ford c-6 auto in about 2 years. I blew it so bad it has silver oil full of metal shavings. I blew mine by burnouts and donuts and misc. really cool chit. Ohh ya and it was in a 4500 lbs ford truck with about 350hp 400ftlbs. Now if your tranny is broke and honda wont(or will) you should see if you can grab up your old one and have it modified so you can continue to drive the wheels off. Having a tranny guy go through a auto is better than pete, joe, paul, phil on the assembly line slappin it together.
