Back & Forth Revving HELP PLEAZE!!

Just about last Sunday.. my mom bought me a manual 1994 Honda Civic Coupe. I have enjoyed this car so much.. until I heard the car Rev up and Down, UP and Down, NON STOP unless I am driving it. It idols like that and I have NO idea why? Some people tell me its because of my air intake or VTEC engine? Any Ideas???

the intake and having a vtec engine wouldnt have anything to do with it. i suggest taking it to a shop and have them look at it......maybe a sensor or something stupid

and pink is really hard to read with a white backing haha

some kind of idle air control problem. I think you may need to replace the throttle body. Is the check engine light on...if you even have one? Sounds like a faulty tps sensor to me, which is part of the throttle body.

This also sounds like a vacuum <spelling leak. If you don't know whats wrong take it to a good shop and have them look at it.

that is just the gear getting loose. and the grinding is the the synchromesh not aligned properly. happens with age, nothing you can do about it except get a new tranny or rebuild that one.

Put a tube of Moly grease into the gearbox. It'll buy you some time.

Hey! Let me get this straight. You turn on the car. It revs up, then settles down to where it's supposed to idle, then revs back up again, and the settles to idle, then revs again and so forth, right?

if that is the case, i had the same problem with my mom's 96 camry. we found out that it was a faulty ignition switch/starter. You would need to get that replaced. (when i had my problem, i couldn't turn the car off, even with the key out, unless i disconnected the neg on the battery).

that is more than likely your problem.

check the TPS sensor ... it controals your idle and if thats messed up then yea your car is gonna idle funny ..... i had the same problem with my b20 Vtec hatch ... so all you gotta do is change that .. get it from honda or anyone that has one lying around .... and poppin out of second .. could be your clutch going out thats what happen to mine but then again i race tha crap out of mine .. and it was still my OEM clutch so yea

the not so technical term for this is...... "searching for idle" your car will sometimes find an idle and stay there for a while then resume the searching. my bro's type r did this alot. from what i know the cam wont make it search for idle although an extreme cam can make it sound like its putting because the exhaust valves will be open at the same time as the intake valve for a short amoutn of time. the sound i describe is one youd hear from a chevy or sumthin running 9's its like.... weird.
its most likely a computer problem however i could ask my brother what it is 2morow for you

From my experience I would suggest looking at the Idle air control valve, both the electronic one and mechanical one. Trying cleaning it if its the electronic one and bypass it if its the mechanical one. If that doesnt seem to be the problem, start with everything on the ignition side and move up from there ex: plugs, distributor, etc.

If the guy before you was a ricey racer, he might have taken out the vacuum tube completely in order to get that effect. For some reason, if they see something on need for speed, they would like to try it on their car. I dunno if this is what it is, but my friend took the vaccuum tube off of his Prelude for a day, and it did this. Good Luck. I love you.

Idle Air Control Valve or vacuum leak I think ... My friends 92 del Sol does the same thing ... If the car is under 2800rpm it automatically revs between 700-2800-700-2800-700-2800 until you increase rpm's over 2800 ... its a pain in the butt to drive and a cop pulled him over for noise violation because he was revving his engine at a light ..... lol ...

Cuz the first two days I had it it only did it when i started driving it and after i drove for like 15 miles it would stop.. until Bruno, my sisters boyfriend was racing (and beating) the crap outta him it started doing that the day after. So i just dunno.. im gettin it taken to a shop tonight because i left my keys in my desk drawer yesterday at work... so hopfully after work we take it and get it fixed! **BrI** PS I LUV YA TOO.. lol

I will say it is a problem with the ECU, but I could be wrong. Had a friend who's Integra did that, switched the ECU and it ran fine.

Ya. First thing check to make sure all the vacuum lines are connected properly or that there isn't a leak somewhere.

try the throttle position stop, it might be too tight/ wound in too much, start your engine and let it idle ,when it is going up and down, turn the throttle stop screw out until it stablizes , your ecu may be trying to adjust the idle itself , i had this with my 7th gen

its a common problem on hondas and acuras...im pretty damn sure most of u guys are wrong, cuz its that the throttle plate is really dirty...try taking ur intake off the manifold and cleaning the throttle plate with carb cleaner on a rag...it should go away after u do that

It might just need its wires, spark plugs, roter and cap changed. This is the most common problem.

I had this exact same problem with my 2001 too, all I had to do was back off the idle position screw (on the throttle rotor at the throttle body) and it stopped.
