I don't think this would be a good idea for telling people how to open up cars without keys this might just encourage stealing cars..

it can VERY easily be jimmied. After my accident, my doors wouldn't open cause I have shaved handles, so they jimmied it. Very simple, but there's a trick to it. Once you figure out the trick, it's simple.

It is hard to lock the keys in the car. The drvier side door won't lock if the door is open at least on the EXs this is true.

I've been told that it is possible. They tried to fix it so that you'll have a harder time compared to older Civics, but if you really want to, you can.

Answer: Yes it can be jimmied. However, I assure you that no thief will use this method as it is easier and more discreet to use a screwdriver to the lock cylinder. The tow truck driver can use one of 2 methods to open the vehicle. One method involves pounding a plastic wedge into the A-pillar beside the door. Then using a rod to pop the lock with a rod. Another method involves using a specially shaped "slim-jim" device to pop the door lock linkage from the bottom of the window and around the latch protector. This is no secret as tow truck drivers must release the parking brake to tow the car if the driver isn't around. Theives won't use this method because it's too conspicuous.

All vehicles on the market excluding some very high end luxury vehicles can be opened by non-destructive methods.

Also Civics older than 2001 can be opened by popping the window out of the frame. I won't detail that method here, but it can't be done to 2001 (corrected) and newer cars as long as your windows are rolled to the top.

I locked my keys in my car and I used a thin piece of metal
and pried out on the top of my door carefully and slid a hanger
down from the top and lifted up on the door lock was no problem
didn't leave any marks either

Yeah but has anyone locked their keys in their car while it is running? Well yes I have done it! not in my vic but in my '99 Accord. I was with two friends and I called AAA to pop the lock. It was embarassing but funny at the same time!

Tow truck drivers now carry bags for the first method you mentioned.
They open up the door at the pillar slightly then insert a bag.
The bag has a pump attached to it so they just pump and create space without vehicle damage. Almost the same device doctors use to measure blood pressure. Last they insert the metal rod and lift the door lock.

I've locked myself out of my car 3 times now.
Each tow truck failed at jimmying the car and had to use the bag.

I have done that!! my keyless entry locks the car a few seconds after you turn it on, and so i turned the car on with the driver door open, and even though our civs dont lock with the door open, it locks and so i closed the door and went to open it and it was locked. car was idling for like 2 hours lol

Just to add my $0.02 in, I just can't see how you will ever lock your keys in your car by accident. You cannot lock the driver's door by pushing the plunger down when getting out of your car. It will not let you (unless this is an 03 / 04 civic thing). You have to use the key to lock the door, and even then you have to do so when the door is closed. So when you close the door and realize you don't have your keys, you open the door and get them. Lastly, if you have auto locks you need the remote to open / close them. So if you close them with the remote, you should have it to open them. You can lock the keys in there purposefully but you do so by closing the drivers door, going to the passenger door, pushing the plunger down, leave the keys in there and lock the other door you crawled in from (non driver door).

Actually I believe that you can lock the drivers side door by pushing down the button, but you have to first hold the outside handle open, then push down. That will allow the button to be locked and you can close the door (not sure if you have to hold the handle open while closing the door) but I have done it before. A lot of older cars have the same mechanism.

^^^That is correct.
You just pull up on the driver's outside door handle and push down the lock.
Everything locks too and you just close the door.

Easy way to avoid locking keys is to carry more than one car key with you. The civic comes with three keys, 2 standard keys and one valet ket. I need to carry too many keys all the time so i divided them in two sets and have a car key in each one. Also, you can lock the driver's door by pulling the inside door handle, not just the outside one. I know cause i do it all the time and never leave my keys locked inside the car

i've accidentally locked my keys in the trunk once! i was down at a school they district wasn't using (budget cuts) working on rattles from subs. i was messing with the rear latch, and disconnected the cable that runs to the trunk release up byb the driver. i left my keys on the floor, and shut the lid.

IT WAS A PAIN IN THE **** reaching back between the sub box (2-12") and the wall!

It takes AAA < 20 seconds to open our cars 01 ex. in through the key hole. and car automatically locks if you use remote to unlock and walk away or even put keys in ignition car will still lock. Maybe mine is defective or something! Since nobody else can lock theirs in the car.

I do the same thing. But some how every time I only have one key on me I accidently drop the keys in the driver side pocket when I reach for the phone or wallet or chapstick. The best way for the tow truck drivers is to use the rod to unlock the doors.
