Exhaust smell, rich or lean?

can you kinda tell by the way the exhaust smells if your running rich or lean?

Civics typically run rich if they are stock. Rich you should smell a more sweet smelling odour. Lean more chalky. Sorry this is the best way I could describe it.

the reason i ask is since i've installed the intake i've smelt a sweeter smell in the exhaust. i know it smelt like that before just not so strong.

?!?!?! civics run lean as hell, thats why they come from the factory with the "ultra-low emission" tag

now that would be different if you were boostin cause if you were runnin rich you'd see a puff of black smoke when you hit it

Rich vs. lean

Rich mixtures usually make your eyes water while lean will feel more like hot air, hotter than the rich mixture. The best way is to get an O2 sensor. your car most likely is equiped with wideband O2. The readings will be accurate.

i think i'm gonna take my face and shove it behind the exhaust. see if my eyes water and probably take a deep breath for good measure. that'll be the only way to tell. be back in a few to post results ....

okay guys i recommend you not do this. i was knelling down to test this out then next thing i know i'm peeling my face off of my garage floor. my eyes were watery but i'm not sure if it was from the exhaust or me smashing my face on the floor.
