mixing motor oil (by rating)

wanted to know if mixing motor oil is a good idea or bad? currently using "mobil 1" 5w-30 and thinking about using 2.7 quarts of that and a quart of "mobil 1" 0w-20. yay or nay? i live in cali weather if it matters. shining during day sometimes but raining/cold during this season.

what are the disadvantages/advantages if there are any?

It doesn't matter if you mix it. It will make the 5w30 slightly thinner, but that is about it. The oil is compatable and won't harm anything if you do.

Mix it with a pound of sugar that should make things really sweet

screw it just use 5 w 20, if the viscosity is too thin you are going to damage your internals crank, cam, etc. if its too thick you are going to have too much resistance, and could increase the oil pressure.
