First what car do you have, because all the new civics 01+ have red needles. What is the stock needle color, and are the needles made of clear plastic? You may be able to take the gauges apart and wire in some LED lights (color of your choice) behind the needles. That's what I did with mine--except I stripped the red paint and painted them white. They're blue at night. Check out my avatar for a pic.

Okay I think I know what you're saying. Whatever it is, it will have to be custom. The older accords have the same needles except they don't light up. There is a light box at the top of the cluster that makes them visible. Along this idea, you could find a spot below your cluster bezel to put a light source that will then shine up through the cluster while staying hidden. Along these lines, it could definately be possible to buy special paint (color of your choice) and put a black light neon under the bezel at the bottom of the cluster so it shines through and activates the paint on the needles. You could even paint the needles while they are still on the cluster. Just an idea for you. Whatever you decide, most likely you will have to start pulling out bulbs so the needles don't light up stock and interfere with your new lighting method. Since you have new gauges anyway, this won't affect the backlight.
