Sqeaking Brakes

Hey guys,

I've just changed my brake pads and broken them in. They were changed last month? Anyhow, When I start up my car in the morning (garaged) and when I'm leaving my driving and have to break for a car the brakes seem to squeal. And it always happens when I leave my car outside. For example when I go to work and the car sits there for about 5 hours and as I go home the brakes start to squeak when its applied. anyone have this problem?

Don't know dude. I haven't had to change my pads yet. But I bumped the thread for you....lol Did you have the rotors turned? That could be your problem.

its because the brakes are cold. thats why it stops when youve been driving. i hear that you can try using some brake caliper cleaner the clean the rotor, pads, and caliper. if you have the calipers painted though, the cleaner will take it off. dont know if that will work for sure, but its worth a shot. kinda embarrassing when you pull to a stop light and squeak the whole way. drives me crazy when it happens in the gf's car.

well why didn't the old pads do it if its cause the brakes are cold. Mine don't squeak at all....ever. even when its freezing *** cold outside....no squeaks. You might want to have you gf's brakes checked, cause brakes aren't suppose to squeak even when they are cold. squeaking means that something is wrong!!!

If you didn't have your rotors turned when you changed the pads, I'll bet that is the problem. It will cost you about $20-30 to get you rotors turned if you take them off the car yourself, cause the labor for brakes is really high.

check out this link, it answers your questions. it also said that the brakes being cold are damp frem dew are one of the main reasons fo squeaks. it does say that it can be caused by "untrue" or worn rotors. so it looks like we might both be right. http://www.trustmymechanic.com/htmlmessage9.html

but it does it after he's parked for 5 hours at work, and I don't think they'll get dew on them in day time unless he is having some serious temp. changes within a couple of hours. the "dew squeak" would only be in the morning after its sat all night. agreed? Oh, I don't need to click the link cause I worked on brakes at Sears for about a year. I know brakes pretty good.

my breaks squeak too...only the first time i use the car..only in reverse and they're loud as hell - it's so embarassing. the dealer checked them and cleaned them and said they were fine. i dunno. add that to the list of problems....

Did you get Semi metallic pads or ceramic/organic pads? As you know the semi metallic contains metal and that might be causing the noise.. try to change it PGD Quiet Stop ceramic brake pads.

Mine do the same thing. After I brake a couple times, they stop.
