Remote UNlocking, hatch separately???
I have an '02 Civic SI. Bought it used, came with only one key and one remote. I bought another key on ebay, had it programmed and cut at the local Honda dealer. Works fine!
Also, found two compatible remotes on ebay and bought them. They have THREE buttons, lock, unlock and trunk release. I programmed them for my Civic and they work fine, EXCEPT, of course, the TRUNK button does nothing.
Since there is an electrical unlock solinoid on the hatch (one can hear it unlock when standing next to the hatch) it stands to reason that the third button on the new remotes could/should be programmable to ONLY unlock the hatch.
Any thoughts on this "situation" or am I crazy? Perhaps there is some way to reprogram the security system to recognize the trunk button. Obviously, the Accord has this function, why not the Civic SI?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or ideas!

I have an 03EX. Dealer wants $40 for another key. Where on Ebay did you find one, and was it less than that?
I doubt you'll be able to reprogram the locking unit, but maybe one from an Accord? There is a way to have your trunklid open with aftermarket security systems, using the Accord opener. Run a search of the DIYs, you'll find it.

$40.00 for a new key, cut and programmed is not too bad. I got the key blank on ebay for about $10.00 plus a couple bucks shipping and paid the dealer $20.00 for cutting and programming. I hear some dealers charge $60 - $80 for a cut and programmed key. A rip-off if there ever was one!
