alternator whine?
Ever since I installed my new bored out throttle body, I've been hearing what sounds like alternator whine. I was also messing with the gauge lights again, but I didn't mess anything up really. Now the thing is, I hear the whine with the stereo completely off. And it gets higher pitched as the rpms go up. Does anyone know the problem and how to fix it? Is it alternator whine for sure?

Where is the sound coming from exactly. Usually alternator whine is from the bearings in the alternator going out. Some people will confuse belt whine with alternator whine cuz it's coming from the same area. But it would be unlikely that your new tb would cause any probs with the alternator.
Just a thought but if the tb is not making a good seal with the intake manny then the air might make a whining sound when you turn the car on and it would get worse as you accelerate.
I'm not sure I get what you mean about hearing it with the stereo off. I mean having it on puts more of a load on the alternator but??? Anyways, I'll check my haynes manual tomorrow.
By the way, Do you like the new TB? Did you end up boring out the manny?

The TB works fine. I have a new gasket to seal the bottom, but I didn't port the IM. On the bottom, the bore was only 1mm over stock. I didn't want to risk any plastic piece getting in the engine. The top rubber I had to dremel a bit to make it sit flush with the TB. Does true alternator whine only happen with the deck on?

If a whine is coming from the alternator it usually is from the bearings going out. Since the belt is always turning the pulley, The bearings will always whine while the engine is on.
If your talking about stereo alternator whine, that's completly different. That's not from friction(bearings); It's from electrical frequencies. Two things cause this alternator whine: 1. diode failure, 2. increased circuit impedance. In short, either your alternator is going bad or you have a poor electrical connection.
Poor electrical connection is most common.
Check your battery fluid levels.
Check your grounds. Check your head unit ground also.
check your terminals.
check your stereo wiring, amp, and speaker wiring. Didn't you say you were doing something to the speakers in the doors?
Those are the most common. I grounded my alternator.
You can also install a capacitor (noise suppressor) if it's not a bad wiring connection.
Here's one of many: But it is usually a waste of money because the problem can usually be fixed by finding the source of the circuit impedance.

Thanks. Everything was fine before the TB install. Maybe it's the alternator going out, since I haven't played with any stereo wiring, and it's making the whine with stereo off. That sucks, since now the dealer is gonna say my system ruined the alternator.

you need to quit messing with your car. Hasnt someone told you that before. Honestly I think you keep adding all these unneccesary things to your car. Why do you need your throttle body bored out? remember this is a civic, not a rx7 or supra or something.
I am not trying to hate on you, but it seems you are the one who has the most problems with there civic from all your posts, and it seems to happen right after you install something new, or try a new product. Just leave the poor engine alone.

Lol, you're right man. This is it for me. My last mod after the eq is a dyno tune and it's over. All I really have done is the ported head and TB. Everything else is stock.

That's the sound of your Fuel Pump... when ur pumps are starting to go bad you can really start to hear them loudly and they get louder as the RPMS go higher... no biggy... just get a new one and ur all set!!! End of discussion... and yes that fuel pump whine is annoying as FAWK
