proper throttle cable adjustment?

Anyone know what the factory setting is for the throttle cable? I think mine's loose, but I don't want to tighten too much and then have it come apart. And where is the cable, next to the TB?

I've already adjusted mine twice, and I'm at around 23k. It's very easy and shouldn't take more than ten minutes. The cable comes from the right, and runs parallel behind the valve cover. There are two nuts around a threaded sleeve, one on each side of a bracket. Simply adjust the side on the left, then tighten the side on the right of the bracket to keep it in place. Expect to adjust it once or twice to get it right. Just adjust it, turn on the car and make sure you didn't raise the idle, and check the pedal slack.

Actually.... the RIGHT adjustment for the throttle cable is to have someone floor the pedal, and then adjust the cable looking at the buttefly in the throttle body. The butterfly should be wide open without putting extra tension on the cable.

That would be the right way, so the cable does not get stretched.
Though I rarely do things the "right" way.

You better hope the butterfly stroke and the pedal stroke are equal then. And, why are you worried about stretching that cable? It's thicker than my mountain bike's disc brake cables and they take way more stress with zero problems.

Actually, it's the pressure you put on the throttle body linkage that's bad in the long run.

As I said, the "RIGHT" adjustment. Honda leaves it loose anyway. Though I agree, I hate play in the throttle myself.

just a quick question about this throttle body stuff, I also read the DIY thread about it. If honda does realize that you played with the cable and tightened it for better throttle response could they void your warrenty?

I doubt they'll know unless it breaks from being too tight.

I see. Can you actually feel the difference from adjusting it? Is it worth the work? or no?

It will just make the car get off the line quicker when you step on the gas. I'm not tightening it past the normal specs. Someone had theirs break while driving because it was too tight.

You guys are killing me. It's a metal cable that stretches, just like your e-brake cable, just like my mountain bike cables. I think adjusting these is even part of Honda's "10k mile overpriced service." It's routine maintenance, not a warranty-ending modification. If the throttle body linkage is so weak that a few lbs. of foot pressure on the gas pedal would bend/break it... and I've never heard of this happening... no more Honda for me.
