Key duplication?

Hi all,

Just got myself a 2002 Civc LX Coup 5 speed..... my question is, how can I get a duplicate of the key? Apparently it has an anti-theft chip in it that handshakes with the car to confirm it's ok to start.....

Was that a dumb question?

the only place that can do that? dealer.

my local dealer charged me $35 for one key....

well you can duplcate the key at any hardware store.. but the immobilizer system wont turn on the fuel pump so it can crank.. just wont turn over, you can unlock doors and the trunk and stuff

I work at a hardware store and we can duplicate our civic key. The reason the key is so exspensive is that it has a transponder chip in it. We charge like $29 a key.
