ok, I ordered amsoil motor oil and filter. I checked the amsoil filter and they are smaller than my regular filter, are they supposed to be smaller than the one I have on my car now? or I just got the wrong filters(size)? hopefully I didn't get the wrong size...
In addition, howcome people claims that they gained "horsepower" with ROYAL PURPLE SYNTHETIC OIL? is this true or just a placebo effect because royal purple claims in their site that they add horsepower? I am just wondering if it really adds horsepower lol hehe thanks!

Synth decreases frictional losses and increases hp. How much depends on a lot of things. It's worth 0.1 to 0.15 in my Mustang (runs low 12s). Not sure how much it would be worth in my civic (I don't race it).

so its not only royal purple but also other synthetic oil increases hp? how about the filter.... I already searched and didn't find any... but I found that civic can use 2 diff sizes of oil filter (smaller and the regular size)... but i don't know how small that "small" is...

They switched the size of my 01's filter through the years. As long as it works and has the same capacity, it doesn't matter the shape....
As far as the Amsoil, my friend did a fair amount of research and swears that Amsoil is the best you can buy... He had links showing how great it is but I don't remember them... I dunno....

so you're saying size doesn't matter as long as it works? if it's smaller then obviously its capacity is lesser right?
thanks for the input! you're the only one and smx that really helped me.. I guess not that much 7thgeners uses amsoil huh...
some people say they're expensive but if you calculate it in the long run you actually save couple bucks... well, this is just for me though....

pnoiracer,
I've been using Amsoil oil filters on my wife's '01 LX since the first oil change (and in my Tundra and my bikes). Specifically I use SDF-20 filter, which has the same throat size and bypass pressure as the Honda OEM filter. The SDF-20 is significantly larger than the OEM filter that her Honda came with, but its still a fairly small filter. Amsoil filters are actually made by a company called Hastings, and they are built with an excellent anti-drain valve design, ample filter media, and rugged housing design. You can't go wrong with either Amsoil oil filters or Amsoil oil.
Having said that, I had been using Amsoil Series 2000 5W-20 oil exclusively on the Civic, but have switched to Mobil 1 5W-30 at her last oil change. Mostly because 5W-30 is 100% synthetic (my understanding is that the Amsoil 5W-20 is only a synthetic blend) and because I can get Mobil 1 at a much lower price than Amsoil.

the filters that I got is half the size of the OEM (SDF-13) and that's what it says in their site that part SDF-13 is for civics and it is also for accord... but it's really small though.. damn it I will probably get the mobil 1 oil filter
pnoiracer,
That's odd. I have a '01 LX and amsoil.com lists an SDF-20 for my application. However, amsoil.com lists a SDF-13 for '02 LXs.
Perhaps you can contact an Amsoil distributor to get the specific throat size and by-pass pressure information for both filters and see if you can use an SDF-20 in your Civic.
Personally, I like to use the largest filter that can fit. I use an SDF-34 filter on my Tundra, which is waaaay bigger than the OEM replacement or the Toyota factory filter. So much so that my engine now takes almost half a quart more oil than spec.
