That's sort of becoming my goal. Get some good ported cylinder head work, intake/header/exhaust, cam gear, vafcII, then go get it tuned. That should get you half-way there.

haha. only way without nitrous or turbo is to build your engine block which can cost thousands of dollars too. no intake/header/exhaust combo will give you any more of a 5-10 hp gain over stock

...i don't mind getting a little head work every now and then.
imp:
our d-17 are know to be vary hard to pull more horse from without turbos or squeeze. I think your best bet would be to save you change from dunkin dounuts for awhile and just get your hands on a K-20a
or even a K-24 (if you can find a way to mount the engine) with a manual tran same amount of horse but more torque and more displacement to work with. Hasport has the mounts you would need. This is what I plan on doing.

if you wanted a fast car you shouldn't have bought a civic......only way is turbo, engine swap, or new car
the cost to get to 150 whp on a civic n/a, you might as well just trade it in a buy a whole new car

Its actually very easy to make your civic out handle one of the newer Over weight Eclipses (3210LB Curb weight) . I do it all the time. In fact on track I have yet to be beaten by one.

All you want to do is accelerate faster?
**** horsepower, just change the final drive for a higher ratio, 4.80 or something, and pull some weight out.
Sure your speedometer will be off, but its cheaper and easier than than ripping the motor apart.
Raise the final drive ratio and get shorter tires. You might not make it to 100, but it'll get there in a hurry.
Oh, and no, I don't know where to get a new final drive unit, but someone's gotta make one for D-series motors.

Thats the thing the old muscle cars did, Low gears, fast acceleration, but not many could make it past 120......

pretty sad isn't it
