you don't NEED to change your filter. It is highly recommended. You can just empty it out, regrease it, and put it back on. My Amsoil filter says it can last 14k so I am gonna use it for that much.

i think u gotta change it evey oil change if ur using FRAM filter..

NO! You don't need to change it every time. Yes, it is better to be safe than sorry, but you can get at least 2 oil changes worth of a filter if there is no crud in it.

hes right, you dont need to change it every time. its just something stuffed into your head like the ole "change your oil every 3000 miles". when really you can go around 5k and still be perfectly safe. even with that said, i change mine at every oil change because its easy to do, filters are cheap, and i love my car, so i treat it best.

the thing is, my filter only cost $2.....i changed it at wal-mart....so there's no reason for them not to install a new filter....

BLAH to you all!! There are so many oil misconceptions and you all feed into them. Yes, it is safer to change your filter, just like it is safer to change your oil ever 3k, but I sure as hell know that you can go more than 3k on it. The recommendations are for stupid people who don't learn about their cars and would rather not deal with it. So people created a list of things for people to do at certain intervals so they remember to do them. I KNOW that an oil filter can be used a few times as long as it is not clogged. Yes it is better to change it with the oil change, but not necessary and I don't recommend going too long on it.
