IAT Sensor

I was going through ebay and I found a guy selling resistors that you install between your IAT sensor and its supposed to boost your car 7-15 horsepower. Does this sh*t work or is it all a load of crap??? Has anyone tried doing this b4? And just for my own knowledge cuz I am stupid like that, where exactly is the IAT located? SOooooooo many questions......

Thnx 4 da help,
Jaymz....

actually to the dumbasses above, it CAN increase HP if done properly. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance of your IAT when its COLD. Find a resistor that matches that value. Dont just buy a resistor off e-bay cause someone says it will work for you. Will you gain substanial HP ? Prolly not. But it can be a noticable/measurable amount of increase

The auction is for a resistor that you wire up to your IAT (Inlet Air Temp) sensor. By putting a resistor across it's connections, you make the sensor output read artificially cold. By doing this, the ECU adds extra fuel thinking it's running on a cold intake air charge, or put otherwise, making the ECU think the air is more dense, therefore needing more fuel to run properly.

The extra fuel *might* add a little bit of horsepower but it *will* reduce fuel economy and can make the engine run a little rough under certain situations.

There is also the potential that the ECU might pick up that the sensor is acting "funny" and throw a code. If there was a little work done in selecting the resistor, this could probably be avoided in all but the coldest ambient conditions but this guy is selling a $0.10 resistor from Radio Shack for like $20 so I'm not going to bet that he is honest in the first place nor that he ever had it on a 7th gen.

IMHO, don't bother with the magic fixes, they almost always prove to be a scam.

I have the following mod to bypass the AIT sensor. I am running boost and the SF kit insall instructions say to leave it loose in the hot engine bay. Check out the following link if you plan on a DIY.

hahahahhaa. omg guys.

i think he realized in the first place that the thing he's talking about is full of crap.

anywho, i wonder how he feels being treated like that. i think, a thread which explains about how that resistor actually work (as a piece of crap) as another guy explain above is much more better for a lot of people who read it. especially noobs...

i think, it's a better way to express the "crap"-tastic of that piece of crap compared than those useless flames that you guys did...

seriously, i do think that the op must use the search button.... yes, it's correct....but being treated like a jackass, i don't think that's correct...

ps: anywho, by reading that educating thread about this resistor, i gain another knowledge today....

He leftout it might advance your timing a slight bit to make better use of the added fuel.

Yes, I left that out. I also left out that it might retard you timing. It depends on how "cold" the intake air is. If the ECU thinks the engine is running cold, it may retard your timing to keep the cat hot and running in it's optimal range, to help reduce emissions.

I have a question that arise from it....For a 3.3k-ohm and 4.7k-ohm resistor, what will be the difference?
I know that Civic engine is running LEAN at ALL RPM stock, even you see the dyno graph showing 12.5 doesn't mean it's rich. And putting in a resistor in place of IAT sensor will rich out the fuel and therefore giving out more power. Sounds strange, but this is how the D17A, especially D17A2 and A6 is designed for.

My dyno result: more fuel causes more power in D17A2, and less fuel gives more power in all other engines.

so what resistance level do you recommend, i've heard 3.3K @ 1/2 watt tolerance
