Tranny problem...has this happened to anyone else?
Tranny problem...has this happened to anyone else?
I have a 2001 and I know some of the trannys are bad. If I rev too high in first then shift to second it falls out of first as I'm shifting. Now it's falling out of 5th gear completely while I'm driving and I'm getting some wierd smells in the cabin. This **** was happening before my car was boosted. I know I need to replace it I was just wondering if this is happening to anyone else?

its the synchros on the 2/5 gearset. they are garbage but honda only sent out recalls to a limited number of people. mine are like that. i have to suffer till i can get a hold of a new tranny to install myself.
Labor hours are whats gonna kill ya. my cost to fix the problem is like no more than $200 in parts, but just to remove and reinstall a tranny is an 8 hour job. Add in a teardown and rebuild is like another 4-6 hours i think. i'm glad i can do it myself. loss of time but saves me money in the end.

I could have come in for warranty work too, but I didn't. I'm a dumbass.
Anyway, I read the TSB. I will go through it and understand the problem when I flush my tranny fluid. I'll see if there's a fix that requires no parts. Maybe there is. Maybe there isn't. I'll post a DIY of course. I'm thinkin' this month.

How many miles do you guys have on the 01s? I have a 2k1 with only 25k and I haven't had this exact problem yet. However, I think the tranny sucks overall so I'm going for a k20a_ swap in about 6-8 months.

i just lost my clutch @ 45,000 holefully nothing wrong with the tranny be sides my 3rd gear synchros are going. but u said ur boosted make sure your air filter isnt laying on the linkage mine was making shifting harder.
They will take one look at my car and tell me I'm crazy for thinking they would rebuild it for free. Eventhough there is a TSB I'm sure they will blame it on the Turbo.
I was running 4 psi but I recently installed an ACT HDSS clutch and a Streetlite flywheel so now I'm at 8 psi. The boost has nothing to do with the tranny going bad, Honda messed up on the 2001 trannys.
I don't think it is an 8 hr job to remove the tranny. We detached it and slid it to the side in less than 5 hrs with taking breaks. You can remove the tranny out the top if you remove everything on the passenger side of the head.

doesnt Honda have a 60k mile power train warrenty (engine, tranny, drive axel)? the bumper to bumper expires at 36k miles but i'm pretty sure the power train is still good.

I've got an 02' 5sp.....did almost the same thing...
I was still under warrenty, but they said they weren't going to fix it because they thought I raced it.....
They finally ended up fixing it after some bitching...
