That's not 100% true. Fuel is injected into the intake manifold, not into the cylinder. So that fuel is mixed before the valve, and whenever a valve opens, no matter how wide, fuel is getting in with air.
The D17A6 is a true 12 switch to 16 engine. D17A2 has the secondary lobe profile higher than A6.
If an aftermarket camshaft is made, it can only do anything to the primary. It will still be idling good as long as the the total intake volume at idle doesn't get too big.
