well i was driving it around and suddenly, it seemed like it would not get into gear.. it would just rev and rev so i had to stop, for a long time, then it started going again.. i hope it isnt bad or expensive, im taking it to the shop tomorrow, any suggestions?
If you are sure this isn't clutch slip it could be several different causes: clogged fuel filter, fouled spark plugs, bad cap/rotor/ignition component, air leak on Intake manifold, a defective fuel pump, a bad ECU. Manual I have here also says to check connectors on the fuel injectors to make sure they are seated ok.
Without spending alot of money you could clean the SRI filter, pull the plugs and check for fouling - regap or replace if needed, replace the fuel filter, pull and inspect the cap & rotor - replace if needed, check the battery connections & engine ground cable connection - clean if needed, check all vacuum lines for leaks, reset the ignition timing (if you have a timing light): these may help. ( If not, I'd recommend having the fuel system & ECU checked out professionally. )
Hope the info helps.

since im new to car (systems/repiar) im gonan have to send it to the shop..
could a dirty filter mess it up...cause why would it stop it from accelerating
and is there anything else i could posibly do?

A dirty filter may be part of it: our engines require air, fuel, and spark to run, if the engine is (hesitating) it's because one (or more) of the components in the systems providing those three isn't working correctly.

Most repair shops won't do free engine diagnostics, they charge regular shop time to hookup the engine to an engine analyzer (diagnostic computer) to check the engine out, over-and-above any tune-up services or parts needed.
If cost is a concern I'd make some phone calls to different places for prices: explain the problem to them, see what they say - don't be afaid to ask questions about the shop rate cost & what they charge per hour for diagnostic time, be polite though. (You might find a shop favorable to hooking up for a low cost diagnostic.)
I would also check with friends/family/neighbors/collegues who have had tuneup / engine work done, to see who they recommend. (Per above, mention names & cars they have worked on when you call the shop, if the shop knows they are getting a referral or repeat business you may be treated more favorably vs. just going in first time.)
--
Another option you might check is for any vocational or local high school automotive shop programs in your area - if there are, you know people who have used (& recommend) them and you can get the car in for service - this may be cost effective for you: They won't charge you full shop rate, usually just parts and a reduced fee for the work.
Best of luck, hope the repairs needed are minor.

i could get mine diagnos for 45 bucks, i changed the spark plugs, changed back to the stock filters, and now i have to wait so i can get it towed to the shop... any other suggestion before i bring it in?
Sounds like one of the clutches in the auto-tranny is shot...
For those of you not so familiar with automatcs, they work (in a NUTSHELL) by having lots of spinning parts and stopping one of those parts to make all the torque go through other channels.
Most autos use clutches that stop when they fill with fluid.
As the fluid gets old, it loses it's specific properties that make it work properly while protecting all the parts. If the fluid wears too much, it causes the "friction" parts (the ones that stop stuff to transfer torque) to wear out faster.
In the case of the hydraulic clutches, when they wear out, they don't hold as well and will cause anomolies such as what you're having.
Warm the car up in park, shift to neutral, pull your tranny dipstick out and look at/smell the fluid. The closer the fluid looks to choclate syrup, and the more like burned @$$ it smells like, the more the repair will cost you.
Best of luck, and let us know how it goes.

Johnovan,
$45.00 seems like a reasonable price for an engine diagnostic.

If the problem is in the transmission, that could be $$$ - a low mileage (salvage yard) trans could run $800-$1000, a rebuilt (remanufactured) trans would be around $1500, more-or-less.
--
Shop costs on the transmission swap will be $$$, it's been awhile but I'd figure around 60% cost of the remanufactured Trans for the installation costs ($750-$900), depending.
These numbers are approximate, you really need to check around to see what the going rate is in your area.
If you have to spend that kind of money, the question is: Is it worth it - if you like the car and are comfortable that everything else on the car (mechanicals, body) is in good shape then I would do the trans replacement (make sure the shop warranties their work, in addition to the Trans warranty), if unsure on the vehicle - I'd cut my losses & take the $2500-$3000 it would cost & put it towards a replacement.
I hope it works out ok for you - let us know how it goes.

MUST READ FOR ANY TRANNY PROBLEM FOR OUR CIVICS
we talked to honda, complained, and blame thier tranny for messing up,
i have 71k miles and honda gave us a free tranny but all we had to do was pay for labor (600)
so if your tranny is bad, take it in to honda, they'll replace your transmission and give you a 3 year warrantee (36k)
good luck to any one iwth a bad tranny,
i was lucky

definately take your mods out before you take it into the shop
well thats what i recomend, i had a intake in it, but i took it off so it wont seem like i "race" it... *race..in a barely mod civic?* haha
well i recommend just taking it off so you wont get htat "u abused the tranny* look and reaction
