Question stock -> stacked internals

Hello all, i'm a long time reader, and i've finaly registered and now i'm a first time poster. I would like to compliment you on a great site (except for the search feature..........) Anyways, i drive 2001 4dr dx and i guess i have to admit its auto.

I have been researching what mods are available/effective for my car for about 18 months now, i'm slow to act because i would rather do it right the first time.

Before i ask my questions i should mention that i intend to use this as my daily drive and i am more concerned about low end power rather than top speed. I plan to boost and use nitrous, but that topic is for other forums.

1) What companies make forged rods and pistons that can direcly replace stock? I would like to know about both the top of the line options and mid range. For those members that have hardened their internals, what are you using and why? There are aparently a lot of people boosted with just stock internals, whats the breaking point for those? Include prices if you know them.

2) I am under the impression that the ~100cc we have over the d16's is (partly?) due ot a larger stroke from the crank. Are there any other cranks available for us with maybe a larger stroke, this causes more low end torque in larger engines, would the same concept work for us? Has anyone on this site upgraded their crank? The only outside information i could find on stroking was for big block engines, i looked up "stroke" with the search and it brought up a link for "the official singles thread".... filthy

3) I have the auto tranny and would like to know what options there are for upgrading it, what have other members dont to improve it.

4) A little off topic; what is the ideal exhaust backpressure? I was told you need "at least some" by an unreliable source. My question is, would no pressure at all produce the most gain? what if a vacume was appied and created a negative pressure, better or worse?

thank you, i would like to point out that all i have ever done was read theory, not try things out myself, if i have misinterpreted anything that i have read could you politely correct me rather than calling me a **** or whatever.

p.s. i am computer programmer / server administrator and i am willing to help improve the search feature for you if you would like me to, the one you have now is quite unreliable......

Check the Forced Induction forum there is a member there with Crower Rods and JE Pistons. He paid about $675 for the crowers. They are the only rods available at this time. If you are going to go with FI you probably already know that the best exhaust is no exhaust so backpressure isn't an issue. You sound like you know quite a bit so I would advise you to piece together a custom turbo kit to ensure that you reach your goals. If you aren't up for converting your fuel system there are several options available to you.

Hit me up on PM if you have any other questions I'd be glad to help.

Also talk to Wil at Exospeed Racing his SN is ExospeedRacing he can/will get anything you need.

Eagle also makes rods according to http://www.dh-racing.com. Not sure about cranks. If you haven't already you should really contact these guys and check out their site. They seem to have pretty good customer service.

Dude holly cow. No back pressure would be a disaster. with 2.25 piping, kamikaze header, and aem intake, you can still hear the air chambers in my exhaust when you push in the clutch. Almost as bad as backfiring.

No back pressure = no running engine. In order for the engine to run right you have to have some backpressure. That's why it's near impossible to run a car straight outta the headers. (unless you are pushing out a huge amount of HP..)
