It's probably for fitment issues. Oh and the older intakes just had AEM written in white on them. But yeah, I think the EX has a different configuration for the pipe.

i see thanks guys. I wish I had 2 pieces, but it doens't hang all that low where any water or stuff can effect the intake. Well at least it looks that way. it sits just right below the battery not an inch lower.

u have two piece too no? second piece larger diameter but smaller? the dx/lx one that is.
it has nothing to do with fitment, cuz both can fit either way.
basically AEM designed it differently cuz its different engine.
if you notice, the EX is a longer steeped design, the 2nd tube is larger in diameter...
the same goes for the dx/lx, but the bend and shape is different, cuz there's different airflow, two different engine. well, two different powerband ranges. (ie: ex has higher power up in the higher rpm ranges, hence the longer 2nd tube and larger diameter.. it'll need the extra airflow but not lose the velocity during low end. etc. etc.)
does it do something? probably not something noticable, *shrug* at least AEM went and account for the different engines.
but yeah for dx/lx users, i'll stick with the dx/lx CAI that aem makes, and the ex users stick with the ex.
