how do i get my cam gear off? I have already took off the plastic cover. Everytime i try to turn the stock gear it just moves. And before i put on the aem gear it has to beset at 0 then adv or retard once it on. right?
You will have to set your timing to TDC. You will have to remove your timing belt of the cam gear. The problem in removing your timing belt is that it will move your cam timing. Be verry care full. If your timing is off you will bend valves. Ask someone that has done a timing belt on our cars if the cam moves when you remove the timing belt. Take off the bolt that holds the cam gear and their is a key that holds the cam gear and cam together. Be care full in removing the cam gear because the key just falls off. the key is like a small pice of metal.
look on your factory gear it will say top. make sure that is at the top in the middle. if the car is jacked up, try lowering it to the ground. that should stop it. also make sure car is in gear. or you can do this. take off left front wheel. you will see two pop rivets on the inside fenderwell near the engine compartment. take those off and peel back. you will see a bolt on the crank pulley. its a 19mm. i would advise using a deep well six point socket. 12 points tend to round off nuts. use a extension and a ratchet or breaker bar to hold that bolt still. engine cant turn if crank won't right. mark your belt at tdc. make sure aem gear is at 0. put it on. to adjust your new cam gear. loosen the three bolts and turn that crank bolt. it will adjust your timing. i would not recommend any more than 6 either way. and 6 would probably be the extreme i would go. 2-4 is probably better. also you must run premium now or it will knock. wont notice much difference without aftermarket cam. make sure you have proper torque on the three bolts on the gear. i just putt mine in like 2 mos ago. so its pretty fresh in my memory. have fun, be careful, and good luck.
When you have your TDC mark the timing belt, maybe with a little sharpe. This way when you put the timing belt back on , you can match the exact grooves with that of the cam to ensure timing is right.

even if you know how to make sure the timing stays the same you still havto get that bolt off and the only good way to get it off is to use an inpact wrech and i dought you have one or a conpresor to run it so work on geting or using one before you worry about the other stuff.
yeah you dont need a impact. before you take the belt off, make sure you mark on the belt where tdc is. get the mark on the pully straight up, and upt a mark on the belt. that way when you put it back on you know exactaly which tooth the belt goes on.
