Question !!!o2 simulator question!!!

ok... I'm going in this weekend to get all my exhaust work done... custom downpipe and no cat... (cat will be removed) and also new mid-pipe done... but my question is... when i get this done adn then i start up the car and the CEL light will pop on like it should... but i have an o2 simulator on the way... should i wait for the o2 sim to arrive and have it installed before starting up car after work is done... or will CEL automatically go off after i do the work and recieve the o2 sim and install it?... confusing i know... but i need to know if i should do the work saturday or wait till i get simulator and then do it

CDMX... you have no cat and also dont' have an o2 simulator yet? how long have you been running without the o2 sim? and does the light come on and hinder performance?

TTT... and I just found out that there are things called MIL eliminator's too... what is the difference between an o2 simulator and a MIL eliminator... the MIL eliminator u just slice two wires and put the MIL eliminator in the place of the wire splice and solder it back up and wrap and ur done... but what is the difference between the two...

CDMX... please answer questions in previous post.. thanks

o2 sim

get the simiulator before you have the work done. obd2 has memory codes and once the cel comes on because of no downstream o2 sensor, it will stay on until it is cleared with a computer (like 80 bucks at pep boys) even after the simulator is installed.

when you say you are going in to have this work done, where are you going? no exahust shop on the planet would be willing to pay the fine for removing yout cat.

mil elim should work on the 7th gen, go to bigjoshracing.com cause they sell em for our cars. Is that where you bought it from?

MIL worked for my car. I got a Kamikaze header from bigjoshracing with a MIL eliminator thrown on there for free.

CEL came on during the first day but it was becuase i installed the MIL backwards

Switched it around and i haven't had any problems at all 8,000 miles later. The MIL eliminator is rediculously easy to install. Just cut the 2 colored wires on the bottom sensor on the header . . . connect the MIL eliminator between the 2 ends you cut . . . and put electrical tape around it. Thats all there is to it.

Can't vouche for the o2 simulator though.

Here's a link to a MIL sim...My friend has one for his SI and it works...You just plug it into the connector of the o2 sensor and that's it!!MIL Simulator

yea... why so much more??? the one from casper looks like the one for ur glovebox on the ECU... and the bigjoshracing is the one for the outside right off the o2 sensor.... but correct me if i'm wrong... and maybe that's why it's soo much more expensive

I thought the one from casper was the one that connects to the o2 sensor itself...I just know that it took my friend like 15 seconds to connect it....I had to wire my o2 sim straight to the ECU...BIG HEADACHE!!!

How hard is it to wire up "wannabBFast's" o2 simulator though??? cause the MIL eliminator is pretty damn easy... i know there is a DIY on it... but it was pretty complicated to me... and i don't wanna go fishing through my ECU wires and accidentally mess something up cause i was a dumbass.... and could just do the MIL eliminator right off the o2 sensor with 4 wires?

well i didnt think it was that bad to wire...

and as far as mil eliminators vs o2 simulators, they essentially do the same thing.. they are just called different things
theres a DIY to install my o2 sim in my sig, ive had mine in since september, and the downstream o2 sensor really doesnt do anything performance wise, it just tells the computer that your catalytic converter is functioning properly the first o2 sensor is the one you wanna worry about, that one determines the air/fuel mix and a malfunction can send your car into "limp mode"

again, my o2 sim is fairly easy to install the instructions in my sig are for an ex

Why does your o2 sim have LED's on it??? It doesn't send the signal to it istead of CEL on the dash does it?? Your car would still be in "Limp" mode if so.

WannaBFast- so... then your o2 simulator takes care of both o2 sensor's then??? as where the MIL only takes care of the one you wire it into?

i have a couple of questions 1. do you just put an o2 sensor or mil on the second sensor or both because i know if something is going wrong w/ your air/fuel mix then you dont want it to still be saying everything is ok. 2. has anyone had any problems w/ the o2 sensor causing something to go wrong w/ your car. like if something goes wrong and the sensor is telling it everything is ok but something is still wrong or does the second sensor just really not matter anyway

in the second one, and mine just takes care of the downstream one, the first one the computer still needs to correct the air/fuel mix
the second o2 sensor reading wont send your car into limp mode with the check engine light, it just says theres a malfunction with the cat

as for the led's on my model.. they are just to let you know that the simulator is working fine

That doesn't make sense, the first 02 sensor is before the cat, it will read the same regardless of what you have done to the exhaust downstream. It's the second 02 sensor that needs to be tricked into thinking there is a cat.

i was just stating that the first o2 sensor failure would put your car into limp mode cause it adjusts the air/fuel mix, the second o2 sensor just determines if the cat is functioning properly or not
if the second o2 sensor isnt reading properly, it wont affect anything performance wise, it will just have the check engine light on and that is all

so if i remove my cat... and just do nothing to it... the CEL will come on... but won't put the car into "limp mode" ... AKA everything will be fine?

so the only reason people put an mil or o2 sim on is to just keep the light from coming on
