Special tool for rotor removal?

I will be doing my friends rotor/pad replacement tommorow, but theres two screws that require a special tool, i read grey's DIY, and even PMed him (no response) and he says you just need a #3 philips bit.. though my friend did it on my other friends 02 LX (have SO many friends w/ 7th gens) and he says you need some type of tool you hit with a hammer... could someone clarify just how exactly you get those two screws off?

Thanks
