Best oil or most commonly used?
Best oil or most commonly used?
I was going with whatever the dealership put in. But I went to my usual place and got a 5-20W full synthetic oil change. The car seemed to run a bit smoother with full synthetic.
Does anyone have any opinions on type of oil to use, full or partial synthetic? Let me know.

My most commonly used oil is royal purple
Your welcome for my input. I find that it runs smoother if you use 3qts of your oil of choosing and then 1qt of stp oil treatment..
Ive switched to 5w30 and switched back to 5w20 cause it didn't feel as smooth with the first switch

I've found the car runs better with full synthetic (Mobil 1 is all I'll dump in now). I went to 5W-30 and found the gas milage went up, the engine temp went down and the car overall seems to be working better with 30 weight. I'm using 0W-30 right now cuz its thinner for cold starts in the winter, but I don't think I'll go back to dino juice again.
Full syn is going to be better because it holds crap in suspension and gets it out of the engine rather than leaving it everywhere. There's also no carbon buildup from synthetic. The bad thing is if you have a leak, synthetic is much more likely to find it and go through it.

Where can I get this royal purple stuff besides the internet?
I have been using synthetic oils for probably 15 years and feel there far superior to regular oils , I mean if you change your oil on a regular basis with regular oil I dont think you will ever have a problem but it like running a stock air cleaner instead of a better flowing K&N , in performance applications every ounce of horsepower and reliablity is your objective so the better quality oil and the ability to lubricate consistantly is what you want,Overall in a stock car or performance application it means better mileage, performance and less internal wear or friction. I ran amsoil synthetic in my 1990 honda till it had 325,000 miles changing it every 9000 miles with a full flow filter and then sold it and the guy is still driving it without no smoke or problems, I have used mobil 1 since it is a little cheaper with great success in my toyota tacoma that has a little over 100 ,000 miles and just purchased a new civic for the wife and willl be running amsoil again in it and changing it every 7500 miles with there full flow filter,I have personally had good luck with synthetic oils and recommend it even though I have no scientific information to back it other than what I have read but I have lots of miles on my vehicles with no internal problems either in the oiling systems or major mechanical areas such as rotating assemblys ect, I just keep replacing shocks, tires, ect.

no doubt man... who still pays people double - triple for oil changes,,, buy a case of hamp oil filters (they DO fit out cars, i need to order them), get a case of mobil1 (online saves you money) .. and call it a day ... oh yeah, get a magnetic drain plug (LOVE mine)... anwyas, buy in bulk and it can get down to $17-20 an oil change.. not bad...
As far as the synthetic oils go, it would seem that the best of the best is Amsoil. Mobil 1, Royal Purple and Red Line all make excellent oils, but indepenent tests show Amsoil lubricates just a little bit better. Be careful when using Castrol Syntec. Syntec is NOT a full synthetic - it is a Type III synthetic which means it started life out as dino juice and was changed on the molecular level to become a synthetic. I'm not sure if Valvoline, Pennzoil and Quaker State's synthetics are Type III.

The Amsoil XL-7500 5W20 is not a 100% Synthetic motor oil. It is a Type III Synthetic. Amsoil fully admits this on their website.
All of their XL-7500 motor oils are only Type III synths.

I saw your reply and know changing your oil is cheap and easy, but changing it when it isnt necessary is my issue, By running synthetic I can change it a lot less and use less filters and less time under my car,If your concerned with the condition of the oil at 3000 miles have a oil analysis done to see the condition of your conventional motor oil is.It will tell you a lot about your motor and possible problems, typical oil analysis done on full synthetic not castrol syntec, which is a type III synthetic not a full synthetic ect show they can easily go 12,000 miles and still dont need changed,I never change my oil less than 7500 miles since it isnt necessary using synthetic . You will see in tests that conventional oils show signs of breakdown within 500 miles and at 2000 miles not giving much internal protection. I feel if synthetic oils werent so good most all of the racing teams wouldnt be using them .
