Question Stupid Oil filter question

I hate to ask this question but here goes, I Just purchased a 2004 civic lx 1.7 motor, I previously had a 2000 civic dx model and always changed my own oil , is the oil filter in the same place as the 2000 model or has the location changed, I looked on the back side of the motor and without jacking up the car it isnt visable it seemed like on my other civic I could access the filter and see it on top of the motor but the air box /breather setup is different and I was wondering if any one had any idea of the oil filter location on a new civic 1.7 lx. or if it had changed,

It's all up in there like a mofuggah. I have one of those handy dandy wrenches to take it out so it's all good. Got to get to it from under the car though. Plus, you WILL get oil on you when unscrewing it. At least I usually do.

thanks, I just wanted to be sure since I tried to look around where I thought it was or should be and didnt see it and before jacking it up wanted to find out if it was in the same spot but there seems to be more garbage than on my last civic as far as hoses and pollution enhancements , thanks again

Re: Stupid Oil filter question

I found that after the car is up on jacks if you let as much as possible drain out through the oil pan there was little if any oil dripping out of the filter. Yes, the filter is a bit hard to get to but as long as you hand tighten it it should come off fairly easily by just hand turning it.

Re: Stupid Oil filter question

LOL, I found a way to get my hand in there like a contortionist and not get any oil on me. I actually wrap my whole hand around the filter and bow my elbow out... I bet you if I saw myself do it I'd be like.. WTF??? But yes, you will most likely get oil on yourself. Get way under the car and it's pretty easy to pull it out. Just make sure you oil up the gasket on the new filter and you won't need the wrench And what CubFan says is right, don't over-tigthen it!!!
