The older Trannys were rod linkage. The new ones are Cable linkage. The rod link trannys are going to feel stiffer and more direct... simply because its a rigid connection rather than a flexible cable. Cable shift has its advantages too... obviously its a little smoother among other things.

ya my friend has a 93 del sol 5 speed and i drove it once it felt harder to shift into gears than my vic but it also is a 93 thats like 9 years of shifting to my 2 years so it has alot more wear maybe hi syncros are wearing i dont know
my friends old '00 LX sedan vs. my '02 EX coupe is night and day.
His shifter was higher up, longer shifts, and more play. My car is smooth, hits gears better and quicker and feels sportier. My friends 97 LX sedan is the same way as my other's 2000. Pretty much all older Civics Ive driven vs. mine dont compare, I like mine better.
