what kind of engine mods will affect (not pass) emission test?

I know intake, exhuast, pulleys, ECU upgrades won't affect the emission...but any other mods will affect the emission(D17 engine has ULEV)?

depends on canada law.. which I dont know... intake and exhaust can affect emission if not properly installed... ie: the pcv valve hose isn't connected... or if the exhaust bypass the cat. converter... but generally they dont change the emission

most bolt-ons dont mess with engine emission.. at least, not the ones for our car.

I can't think of anything, except for different type of headers that may bypass the stock cat... ie: kamikaze's header for lx/dx... the hp racing header with "highflow" cat for ex... or megan/top speed/whatever other brand downpipe/"highflow" cat...

Wouldn't any kind of bolt on that doesn't eliminate anything (like the cat)

pass emmissions

a good hi-flow cat will pass emission...like the one i have right now...random technology...

basically, I think simple bolt-on won't affect the emission...but extreme case, turbo, supercharger, NOS will....

all I wanna know if piston, rods...those kind of internal engine modifcations...will those still pass emission if you fine tune it afterward?

SMX is on a distinguished road
It's going to depend on how efficiently your combination works. If you're looking for more power, you're burning more fuel. How efficiently you burn your fuel is the key to emissions. Can't say whether the rods, pistons, etc. will affect emissions without looking at the whole package. You may end up with a combination that makes more power, but is inherently less efficient for emissions control. Fine tuning may not be able to over come this.

FYI, N2O will not affect your emissions unless it is on. Even then, it's likely to have minimal impact.

woops. sorry.

but yeah someone just answered it for you.

fuel management, emission has to deal with how fuel are combusted... say you start building your engine... and you upgrade your fuel delivery.. but you pump too much fuel in there for the engine to work with.. those left over fuel will obviously exit and create emission issues. there will also be a point where, like mentioned, no matter how you fine tune it, there will be excessive emission.

it really depends on those individual parts and what their specifications are, what they're paired up with, and who's doing the tunning.

so...even if I fine tune it with lots of mod done...and to make the fuel deliver as lean as possible...I will still not pass emission test....

so I guess I shouldn't modify my engine .... yeah I guess since we have ULEV, with little more emission than stock, I won't be able to renew the licence plate sticker since I won't pass emission test......

......I will still try to do some more bolt-on though...hehe.....
