Just installed vtec indicator led...
I just installed a blue led vtec indicator on a 02 EX coupe. I followed the instructions from a website. I used a 330 ohm reistor on the led and tapped it to the green w/yellow stripe
wire of the ECU. And grounded the other end of LED. NOW,,, the problem is that the LED comes on around 2,500 to 3,000 rpms depending driving conditions. It stays on all the time on the freeway going 70 mph @+ or - 3000 rpms. Isn't the vtec engagment at around 4,500 RPM ? Did I tag the wrong wire? BTW, I looked under the hood at the vtec solenoid, the color of the wire is also green w/ yellow stripe.

My LED in located inside the instrument gauge cluster between the tach and speedo. Anyways, how do I get it to light up at 4,500 rpms instead of 2500+rpms? I am currently using a 5 volt LED, would say a 12 volt LED keep it from lighting until 4,500rpm? thanx. If it doesn"t work, i might convert it into a shift light instead.

they say thats right.
vtec does engage at that point and the other points..
diff. stages.. still debatable on our vtec stages... is certainly not totally like the prevoius gen.

The Vtec timing part engages at full throttle above i think 2500 or so, then at 3000-3200 no matter what.
I think it actually switches to the other lobe at 4400.
I think the signal from the oil sensor goes to the ECU, then to the solenoid.
Im not sure how it works, but i would rather that the light come on at 4400 than all the time at 3K, wouldnt you?

The wire color of the VTEC oil pressure switch wire is blue w/ black tracer. It's located on the same ecu (white) harness plug. I tried tagging that wire instead and the LED still lights up at around 3,000 rpms regardless.

I wouldnt mind building a setup sort of like how a bimmer has lights going backwards the closer you get to redline on the tach.
