IAT sensor question

ok. I took out my stock air box and "installed" a CAI,just the cone filter without the actual pipe. My IAT sensor is dangling on the side of the cone and when I started my car a CEL came on. What should I do? Is that bad for the car to have the sensor just hanging there? The light didn't come on before I started messing w/that whole cone filter thing. Should I just leave the sensor hanging and reset the light?

yes, that's bad, the iat tells the engine pretty much the tempature of air is going into that engine, and the fuel regulator changes the fuel settings according to it, some what. now your map sensor is reading a completely different reading than your iat, it's going to throw codes, because you pretty much created a faulty iat sensor situation

edit: wrong iat definition

The IAT determines the temperature of the air charge going into the throttle body. If the air is cold it will send a signal to the ecu and will throw more fuel at the colder air. If the air is hot you don't need as much fuel and will lean it out. If you are not getting a reading off the IAT your ecu will throw the CEL and run rich a f(u)ck and your gas milege will go out the window and your performance will fall through the floor.

I would just like to say that i think it is REDICULOUS that you took off your intake a put a cone filter on your throttle body..that's probably one of the dumbest things i have ever heard. You could spend 30 bux and get a cheap *** CAI off ebay and be better off. Your just asking for trouble doing what your doing.

The MAP is just how much pressure is in the intake manifold...

yes, but since our vehicle does not carry a maf, the map determines the amount of air is going into the engine, how else the car know how much air is being draw into the car otherwise?
