New windshield wipers???

How do you know if you need to replace just the blade of the wiper...or the whole wiper (metal and all)??? I hate having a dirty/streaky windshield and was going to try to replace mine myself. Also, does anyone know what brand is good to use? I was reading about Bosch replacements...are they any good? Thanks for any info!

GreenNVicious can only hope to improve
when they're cracked and/or when the blades streak your windshield.

Edit: BTW, Bosch is all right. I'd stick with just OEM replacements, its cheaper that way too.

I just put Trico replacements on a few days ago. They are great now, hopefully they last more than a month.

thanks...but does anyone actually know when to change just the rubber blade part-versus-when to change the whole blade assembly??? Having a clean windshield is very important to me...I want to make sure that I do it right the first time.

alls you ahve to replace is the rubber... sometimes a pain in the *** to take off, but jes the rubber, not the entire thing itself.. unless you're gonna put on some anodized ones...

Wait... I always change the whole blade itself. I don't care for refills. They are harder to install, my personal opinion. But is it wrong changing the whole blade?

I know what you mean. I always wind up having to bend back some of those metal tabs in order to get the replacement blade in. For some reason, the replacement blade never seems to make good contact with the windshield like a whole blade assembly does. There are always gaps where the rubber doesn't meet the glass.
