that, i do not have an answer. i don't know everything, afterall

yvette, i believe our cars will adjust the timing of everything else according to the change of cam gears degrees, the adjustible cam gears are so much easier back in the older honda because they have distributor ignition, but now, we have computer controlled coil, the computer controls every aspect of our timing, it will retard and advance it's own timing curve according to the change on the cam gears, i see no point to spent the money on those cam gears, for our cars any way. i don't belive it will yeild anything significant either on the rsx. my instructors said he has seen computerized ignition timing adjust itself a full 200 degrees (back in the distributor days, he said the max was about 45) thus, you might actually limiting the car's by say, advance the cam degrees by 5 degrees (that's 10 degrees of crank shaft rotation) doing that may cause our ecm to freak and retard the timing to say.. 10-20 degrees ATDC(which pretty much neutralize anything you did to the cams, because the spark timing will be retarded, thus i won't even bother with the cam gears

just my 2 cents
you have to dyno the cam gear to make use of it otherwise it doesnt make sense, my friend has one on his 2001 with i/h/e and when he dynoed it , it made a big difference, i can get the cam gears for $110 and thats good cause i dont see it anywhere else for less than $150

Most people on here have that combo .. how about posting what degree they ended up setting at that "made a big difference" and when you say "big" exactly how much are you talking about? Thanks....

ok check it by big difference imean 40hp i dont remeber the setting but all i know if that he had i/h/e and a vafc and he then went to dyno tune and shop says doesnt make sense to even dyno without cam gear so he installed it and went back and he gained 40hp from dyno tuning plus a more smoother powerband with power right through and you know they say that you lose alot of torque when car goes into vtec well they smoothed that out aswell

The only thing that you can do is add Plasma Booster Coils. Our ignition, this is gonna be long, how to explain this.......

The ignition in the Civic is Coil Per Cylinder.... I know that just about everyone knows this, but what you do not know is this... Each coil has its only little ignition in it. Since the coil its self is sealed. There is no way to seperate the control module (i.e. MSD SCI Digital Box) from the firing module (i.e. distributor cap). You have to look at it like this.... Each coil is like a tiny complete self contained ignition system all in one.
As far as advance/retard in the ignition, you may try a Honda PGM-Tester. All dealerships have these. The other option would be adjusting the timing with the cam gear. Technically, if you advance the ignition, that is the same as retarding the cam gear and vice versa.

General Rule for nitrous is this:
"reprinted from Tech. Articals from BG 2000; Barry Grant; Demon Carbs; Nitrous Works"

"....for nitrous injections up to a 75 shot, there should be a 1.5 to 2 degree retard in place to prevent premature explosions in the head. The added fuel/nitrous injection will need a slightly larger area for compression as opposed to normal conditions...." then they go on about different levels of induction of nitrous into the motor. Basically, for every 75 shot you need about 2 degree's retard...

I hope that this helps.

are you sure it was the coils and not something else ? or maybe they never install it properly ? u never notice any gains apart from problems ? what is wrong with the coils ?

I installed them properly, its not hard to install them.. anyways when i put the stock coils back it runs fine, then with the ignition coils it runs crappy... do the math.....
