power windows

has anyone put in aftermarket power windows. I have an 01 HX and cant stand the manual windows. I didn't think it would bother me when I bought the car but now its just sucks. Any prices, or difficulties?

SkipBarber and I installed power window kits by SPAL in our cars. It's pretty easy, and I'm not big on handywork.

Bought my SPAL kit on ebay.com for $80. Took me 3-days to fully install, but I took my time and wanted everything to come out perfect (which it did for the most part)

most "professional" installs are $100 (including labor), but that's if you walk into their shop with a big question mark on your face. If you know a good shop, then go to them.

I didn't know anything about electricals, so I went to a reputable shop in my area. I got charged $102 for an oem foglight install. I didn't have that much cash because I wasn't expecting them to charge so much, so I used my credit card. Boy what a time for my only card to get declined. I had to have my sister drive in and cover me. The only good thing about the whole dilemma was that the oem style foglights only cost me $60 shipped from eBay. Dealership charges like $200, not including install. Dealership charges $400 for coupe power windows. Jackasses.

As much as possible, I do my on work on my car.

it took sovereign 3 days cuz he was working on his power locks at the same time, i think that if youre experienced enough, you can do two doors in 4 hours. the hardest part is snaking the wires through the door jamb and cutting out the circle for mounting the caps that cover the holes left over from the window levers.

spal window motors are faster than the ones honda puts in their cars

there will be a manual that comes with the kit. You can get ideas on how to at least set it up on the doors, if the 7th gen isn't in the manual.

The kit I bought was an older Spal kit for european cars. The civic wasn't in my manual, so I spent one day trying to set it up on the door (without any drilling).

I didn't bother adding power for the switches' lights, but I would guess the led lights up like the fog light switch; off white/ dirty white.

I tapped into the 12v constant in the sterring column. If you do it from there, you have roll/unroll your windows even when the car is off.

that thick white one is your constant 12V, you shouldnt cut it, just try stripping it back and attaching the 12V window wire to it...or using a relay you can hook it up to the ignition wire and 12v+ so that it only works when they key is in the on position. i didnt buy illuminated switches. i just used the ones that the seller threw in for me and if you decide to get tricky with it, you can even buy an automotive rocker switch and mount it on the drivers side, so you can turn windows on and off...just in case your passangers are button happy. or you leave someone in the car and you dont want them to drain your battery by winding the windows up and down constantly.

i live in the wheaton/silver spring area. if youre near, i can help you.

Skip....

alright, so I got my kit in the mail on Saturday. I am in the middle of moving, so I didnt have a chance to spend as much time as I would have liked on the install. To be perfectly honest, all I had a chance to do was lay out all of the parts and read the instructions. The wiring was a little confusing to me and I thought that maybe you could help........

each motor has a red and black wire coming from it.....fair enough. I dont understand how to hook them up into the switches. I have two luminated switches with six connectors on each switch. They are linked together and have a red, a brown, and grey wire coming off of them. There are two open holes on each of the switches. Do I connect the black and red wires coming from the motor to their respective switches and the hook the up the power? I think I am looking at this the wrong way.......any suggestions?

By the way, I just moved to Arlington, but my parents live in Germantown. They are going to be out of town this weekend and I was going to do the install in their garage while they were gone.
