Thumbs up DIY sedan door leather insert+cheap deadening

hi

As senior member I feel I should contribute a bit.

Here we go:

1. remove door panel, follow DIY of this site or http://www.sounddomain.com/member_pa...153418&page=11

the link has better resource and prettier pic I believe.

go page 2.

2. Once the door panel is removed, turn to its back, you will see 6 screws, remove them all and unclip in a good angle to remove the whole arm rest unit.

Arm rest is composed of 4 pieces, they are all clipped and hold by screws, it is obvious how to remove all parts if you need to pain them.

FOR coupe, you will have to drill out rivet and replace them by screws, but for sedan there are only screws.

3. Remove the original fabric edge by using a flat head screw driver. With one edge flipped open it iw easy to just rip off the fabric. In here I removed the edge only because I want to paint the door to black, but if you don't need to do any paint job, you can just remove the whole fabric and start to clean up the left over glue usining "goo gone".

4. spray on rubberize undercoat at the back of the door panel for deadening effect. Use sleeping foam to cover all little space at the door panel for rattle absorbsion.

PLEASE NOTE: DO NOT SRPAY ANYTHING ON THE ROUND HOLE WHERE THE SPEAKER SUPPOSE FIT IN!

5. Fully cover the area where you want to insert the leather on with this spray adhesive. This is the only adhesive I know of can glue on leather. DO NOT USE "GOOP" or any other glus which can harden when dries!!

6. Use the stoke fabric as a templete and cut a piece of leather.

The piece of leather will better be 0.5cm larger (over all in term of circonference) than the oem fabric because it will make inserting easier.

So spray the sdhesive at the area where you want the leather piece on. Then put on the leather piece and insert the edge gently to the clivage using your finger.

YOu don't need to worry that there is no glues in the clivage, as long as the leather is nicely glue on the area, its edge will just stay in the clivage because of the flexibility property of leather.

NOTE: do not use glue which will harder when dries.

7. Once you are done inserting the leather piece, you are ready to put back the arm rest. You will need to screw back the electronic window contro, then you can clip back the arm rest. After that, you just need to put screws back.

9.

cheap deadening.

just need to cut out some rubber mat and glue on the holes on the door.

use the gum like glue shown on the pic. This is like the factory gummy glue which is used to glue on the OEM white sheet.

the gummy glue is very flexible and sticky, it is alphalt base so it can also absorbe rattles.

hey,

don't get those stick oncf silver trim...

I had them, they are nice but I regret a bit because they costed my 50$

follow my DIY you should be able to remove that part of armrest and paint them!!

just paint them silver, wait them to cure totally or bake them (7days and more) then use acrylic clear paint on it, you will see silver color with a thin layer of clear on it!!

I can guarantee you it will be nice!!

I tried it but because I run out of silver paint and I am cheap to buy silver paint while I have black paint left, so I gave up, but you can do it!!

you can get leather at custom sofa store.

However, I would suggest you to go to "fabricland". They have vinyl, which is actually easier to handle than leather.and it is cheap
