Sanding
Hey guys, when sanding a bodykit, do you use regular sand paper? I just bought some sides and rear from a guy who totaled his civic. It has some scratches and cracks and I wanna sand it myself so the bodyshop could get it painted faster and for cheaper.
Go to an auto paint supply store and they'll set you up with what you need (200, 400, 600 grit) and how to do it. It ain't hard, just takes time and effort. A good paint job is all in the preparation.

No you need to buy wet sand paper.
I use 400 grit (to remove the paint and stuff) and 600 to finish it (smoothens out the surface)
1. Dip the sandpaper in a bucket of water for 5 minutes
2. Wet your bumper or whatever
3. Sand it now, but [/b] keep your sand paper wet at all times [/b] (meaning soak it in the water every minute or so).
4. Clean
The reason why you need WET sandpaper is because it doesn't scratch your bumper AT ALL if you do it right. Regular sand paper will straight up destroy your bumper. Remember, keep it wet all the time. For more info talk to andyman97
edit: You don't have to sand it down until the paint dissappears...no.... you just have to sand it down until the clearcoat dissappears. The piece should feel smooth, then it's ready.
Except for paint scratches, you have to sand it until the paint is removed on that area.
