that our cars feel a bit slower. it's been like 90 degrees the past few days and recently i have been SOL using the AC to keep me cool. on a good, normal, driving day i will shift at 3k rpm firm.... but with the AC and once i get past 1st then 2nd, 2nd to 3rd gives a little bog or a short drag like i've shifted a little too soon. the first few times i really didn't mind it, but when i compared it to my driving w/o AC, my car felt a little different. it's funny when you think about it. i have heard so many jokes on these boards about having to turn the AC to pass someone up and my experience with it makes me laugh.
man, i know my car's cherry, i have had for one (since july 4th) and have only 7200 miles on it, but that's a shame man... lol

yeah but its sad that the engine is so weaksauce, you notice the power difference in AC.
when I drive with AC on, I shift about 500-1,000 rpm higher.. lol.
mmm torqueless wonder.
bogs easier in 1st too, gotta slip the clutch carefully...
bah.

i have also had the "white mist" come from the vents. especially after having the a/c on for an extended period of time. this is normal and should NOT be cause for alarm. i believe it is just condensation building up in the vents. when it is really hot out things that are much cooler (the a/c hoses and compressor) tend to "sweat". this is why you may see some mist coming form the vents. as far as the motor ******* with the a/c on>>>>>anytime you put more stress or parasitic drag on the engine it will have to work harder. with the a/c on, the motor is not only driving the pumps, alternator, and most importantly the wheels, it is now also driving the a/c compressor. this is why you feel less power. my rule of thumb is>>>windows down around town, a/c on the highway. you should maximize your gas mileage this way. take care.

Hondas used to suffer A LOT more from the ac. Our civics aren't nearly as bad as earlier models.
I think ours do quite well with the ac on, relatively speaking. I don't even notice it much.
Anyhow, pretty much all 4-bangers are like that. It's a small engine as it is an econobox so you just kinda expect it. A lot of times you can even tell on a v6...I think the 5sp makes it more noticeable vs. and auto.

That white mist is fog. Moisture in the air gets cooled and turns to a white fog. You must live in an area with high humidity.
Actually, the ac removes a lot of water. Just look at your ac drain line, by the firewall on the passenger side. That water that is pouring out is simply the water that was removed from the air.

I used to have a Tercel Automatic before my Si Coupe. That thing had more annoying AC related problems. Such as the engine revving up and down 500 RPM suddenly when the AC switches on and off. It makes the car leap ahead when your inching up to stopped traffic or when parking. And when you wanted to go there was like NO POWER.
Im happy with the Civic's A/C system. The car still drives quite well considering it has a hamster on a wheel of an engine. And it blows quite cold. Keeps me comfortable in these hot and humid Toronto summers.

I don't really like Honda A/C. Its just not cold enough for me down here in houston. It takes too long to get cooled off, ad then when its as cold as it gets it still sin't cold ... and I had the freon charged a week ago for my servicing. Its never been as good as like VW or Audi has to offer, nothing along the lines of my dad's TT or mom's 3.2CL, and that one surprises me, because acura and honda pull from the same parts bin.
