This prob really stumps me!

The car is a 93 Civic Si... The car isn't wanting to start... It doesnt prime the fuel pump when I turn the key to start... I've check the main relay, it's good... Even swapped out the P28 for another... Its good... Heres the thing, I can jump a hot wire from the battery to the fuel pump, and it turns on, so thats good. All grounds are ohming out. The thing that has me questioning is the 2 yellow/black wires that are coming from the main relay arent giving me any voltage... Anyone know where those wires are going/coming from? If I'm not mistaken, those 2 wires are supposed to be hot, right? Its gotta have something to do with that connector because when I jump the fuel pump to turn it on, then try to start the car, it still wont start... (frikin gremlins ) Anyways... If anyone has any info to share, I'm all ears! Thanks in advance!

my advice is run a relay from the battery to the wire you know to be the power on the fuel pump and have it switched by the ignnition... if the factory electronics are acting funny on something as simple as a fuel pump, it's best just to bypass it.. it would cost $10 bucks to do this which is probably less than whatever replacement part you need

i just read another post by you that says you dont have spark.. that means one of your main fuses/relays is out... it'll be in one of your fuse locations... gl

Thanks for the info! Yeah, Ive bypassed everything and can get the fuel pump running, but that spark prob is still defeating me. Ive changed out the Main relay under the drivers side dash, but to no avail... Is there any other relay that anyone can think of that controls the spark?? As I said, Ive swapped out the ECU already, so I know its not that either... Any and all help is immensely appreciated!

there will be some relays and major (very large) fuses... they'll be the first thing that you can trace your power wire from the battery to... should be in a under hood fuse box...

I have exactly the same problem (i think),

Petrol pump does not come on, i have changed the main relay and ignitor and coil. Have you used the service manual to carry out the main realy checks?

The problem can be there for days then it will just decide to work! then the next time i go to start it, it will fail

I took mine to Honda and they said it was the ECU, i am now searching for a ECU to try

Ahhh, I just sent you a PM about that P28 you were looking for... Ive swapped out my ECU, and still... the problem exists... Ill still sell it to you if you want it, but I just dont want you to do what I did... I did check out my main relay, and I even swapped it with a brand new one... (I bought the new one before I ops checked the old one, which works 100%) What other stuff did you check on yours?? Have you pulled a spark plug to see if you have any spark?? My civic didnt start one time, and I just kept trying it... The fuel pump wasnt coming on, just like this time... Then all of a sudden, it started... It took like 10-15 min. That was the only other time it did that... Believe it or not, my SI has about the same mileage as yours at 170 something (even know my engine was supposedly rebuilt about 40-50,000 miles ago.) Keep me posted as to whats going on!

so are you getting spark or no? if not, you can trace it back to the problem source and figure it out

Nope, No spark... Im going to have to chase it down further... Is there a relay that controls the signal from the actual key switch (from off to accy/on/start)? If there was something that had to do with that and the fuel pump and distributor, its gotta be that... (try to make sense of this post Its 430am...) haha

Do you have the civic Manaul - on page 11-32

As there is not a flashing engine light, the error does not come from this is where you should start... following through this i get to swap for a known good ECU

Also worth considering is page 11-116 - Main relay as you do not hear the petrol pump charge the system

When you turn on the ignition switch you will get 12V on pin 5 of the main relay, if there was a problem with the ignition switch you will not get this

I ended taking mine to Honda as it frustrated me checking everything £75, I thought it was worth finding out from the diagnostics board they have

Just got delivered a second hand P28 ECU after posting a request on "the parts gateway" and "breaker link" prices ranged from £75-£150 and I opted for the cheapest quote

The non-start fault seems to be fixed... 25 stop/starts so far and no recurance of the fault

Do you know your 2nd ECU is a good?

It was tested good before I bought it... It should be good at least! If not, I got had... So you say that your car will start now, but will just die??

r u getting power to the coil?? that is the first thing i would check after connections while not getting spark. sounds like the fuel issue is another problem and the spark issue is why the car wouldnt start after you jump the pump.

I havent checked yet, Im not in country at the moment, but its just weird that the spark AND fuel would go out at the same time.... I do know for a fact that the car wouldnt start when I jumped the fuel pump because of the spark prob... Im thinking about purchasing anoher ECU just to see if I got a lemon from eBay...

its a good possibility but then again more unlikely than youd think. its pretty rare to get a bad ecu. i bet it is a passlock issue. have you had the ecu reflashed for the key you have??
