Which civic gets better fuel economy??

Im looking at buying my first civic to drive back and forth to work. Im looking at a 93 honda civic hatchback vx with b18 ls motor and transmission swap done. Other than that its all stock. Im also looking at a 97 Honda Civic EX 2 door coupe. Both are 5 speeds. Now ive driven a civic with no vtec and that thing just felt so slow and weak but it might have had problems also. Ive also driven a hatch with the b18 motor in it and love the extra torque it has. It just feels like it has plenty of pep without having to rev it up. Im stuck between these 2 cars.

1 - Which of the 2 will have more power or are they about the same in terms of pickup and go from a light or up hills?

2 - Is the 97 Civic Ex Vtec a slow dog or is it about the same power of the b18

3 - As long as i can get around 30 mpg out of either 1 im happy.

4 - People who have a hatch with a b18 ls and ls tranny, what kind of fuel mileage do you get?

I like the EX but dont know out of the 2 which would be a better daily driver with plenty of power and still get good gas mileage. Can someone help me out. Thanks in advance..

well the vx is the best gas mileage car for sure, it has alot of weight reduction and with a few other mods, ive seen them easily gets between 40-50 mpg on the highway. 97 ex is slow, d16 engine i believe and nothing special. i would go with the vx no question.

Yeah thats what i was thinking. The only thing is the VX doesnt have the normal engine that came in it. He put a 95 Integra LS engine and transmission in the VX(1.8). The civic needed a engine so he put this out of a wrecked ls. I would think it would still get good gas mileage just because its so light and with that motor you wouldnt have to push the car as hard.

yeah, and the power will be there too. those LS are good motors. drive it slow for good mileage and fast for power lol
