b16a4 help!

(repost from 8thcivic.com, they told me this forum would help more)

my friend LOVES his si, i've driven it, it is one sick ride, he has a 6th gen si-r (B16A4) with an si-r header, full exhaust, a whale dick intake and about 3-4k in suspension mods. its black, lowered, no spoiler. a very clean civic.

he thinks he has hit a wall in terms of power mods per $. he only wants to spend another 2k in power mods but doesnt see much point for the hp he can gain. i dont think he has done his research the right way. so im here to learn more about the 6 gen si-r and see if i can help him out.

the main reason he's thinking of selling it is because he can't keep up with any of our cars, (group of friends) chiped 1.8 t fully bolted, srt-4 stage 1 (with intake), i have an ss/sc with header/dp/e/cai/weight reduction. etc etc

he wants to buy a vw (1.8t), i think this is a mistake. i know from experience that they are not reliable, and that hondas will last longer than just about anything.

so the goal is to keep his car n/a and get it up to a trap speed of 100-103 (with good driver), now i know this all depends on the driver. but the goal is to make the car faster not the driver.

Re: b16a4 help!

thats a clean si, where are you guys from i will take off his hands...j/k. anyway i have a 99 si with cam gears, underdrive pullys, exhaust, intake, some suspension stuff. if he is only looking at 2k of spending, there are a couple of options that i know of. my best friend turboed his civic ex for something like $1500 (which now kicks my SI's doors off). The other way to go is NA (cams, cam gears, intake manifold, etc). Believe me i am in the same boat as your boy, i can't decide if i want to keep the si or go with something that has a little bit better starting setup. You can produce amazing power out of the b16, especially when boosting a high number. good luck
