Is it bad to start the ignition on your car too many times per day? Will it decrease the compression over time? What's so bad about starting the engine too many times per day for short distance pizza delivery driving??

well the main issue is it takes a ton of battery power to start the car, so too many starts and not enough driving to charge it back up will ruin the battery. the starter is made for many uses, in fact our 17 yr old accord has never had the starter replaced. and even if yours goes out, theyre so cheap and easy to replace under $100 and its just two bolts and a connector to remove above the trans. carbon buildup really is only a factor if youre turning the car off before the engine gets fully warmed up. otherwise if anything it will increase compression because deposits on the piston reduce the overall volume of space for combustion.
