Runs a mile or two

When I get my '93 civic LX started it seems it will run in the driveway forever. I take it on the road and after about a mile or two it starts to sputter and dies. Can't get it started for a while. Then I it runs great in the driveway again. I have replaced the Ignition module in the distributor, the fuel filter, the fuel relay module under the dash and the fuel injector pressure regulator. Any suggestions?

if you can smell the exhaust, and it smells kind of like rotten eggs, then there is a good chance that it is the catalytic converter.
Once the engine has heated up, you can look underneath the vehicle, just behind the engine and see if the catalytic converter is glowing red. If so, then it is probably stopped up and needs to be replaced. This could cause your car to stall out, die and backfire.

it seems to be a common problem. and if its clogged, usually at idle there isnt enough blockage to cause problem.its when you rev the engine that things go wrong.

Re: Runs a mile or two

I removed the cat conv. and drove the car. Acted the same. Ran about a mile and a half then started sputtering and died. I was able to restart enough times to get it home. When it starts it turns over very slowly even though it's a new battery. Almost like it's trying fire long before TDC.

Re: Runs a mile or two

Have not figured out the problem yet. Have not worked on the car in months. Looking for directions on back seat removal as I am told I may be able to access the fuel pump through an access plate under the back seat.

Thanks,
Tony
