DIY: Car survival kit
I just made my own and thought hey lets make a thread and get some ideas together. basically anything that would help you if some accident happened or snow storm or other disaster and you find yourself lost or away from civilization. its just extra insurance. I think I spent maybe $50 on everything which isnt bad at all. almost all of the items can be found at walmart or other stores and fit in the spare tire well. I do not keep my jack or torque wrenches in the car unless im going out of town, since its not really necessary and a tow truck will come anyway.
Best way to organize everything is with small camera bags.
I have jumper cables (get the coated ones so they dont rust) and the OBDII code reader loose in the tire well, then I put the camera bags around the side. Glove box just has my radio faceplate holder (held down with velcro). The seat pocket has my LED minimag flashlight, spare alarm remote battery, tire gauge, pen, hand warmers, and a bunch of papers (ins, reg, title, list of engine codes, and jumper cable info). Everything else is in the trunk.
Heres a quick list of everything I have so far:
-jumper cables with coated handles
-Ctools OBDII engine code reader from ebay
In the small green pouch...
-four oem lugnuts for spare tire
-one extra tuner lugnut for my aftermarket rims
-aftermarket lugnut key socket
-oem socket
in the red pouch... (camping section)
-bandages
-lots of different cremes for poison ivy, burns, bites, incest repellant, itch, sunblock, lipbalm, etc.
-small hand sanitizer bottle
-small green match holder filled with different size fuses
in the big camo pouch....
-small book of matches
-2 spare valve stem caps
-small extra keychain light with led
-2 AA backup batteries for maglight
-folded aluminum blacket
-good compass that you know how to use
-small pocket knife
-eyeglass repair kit
I ended up leaving out the flares (theyre very flammable), and the glowsticks, and the food bar. I suggest just putting some fresh food and water in the back whenever you go on a long trip. here are some pics of the process...

Good write-up Gearbox.
X2 on the food and water. Never leave on a trip without some spare water and some munchies.
Remind me never to go camping in Nevada with any family.

You would really need to go somewhere crazy to need all of that stuff..a cellphone and a cellphone charger is all I carry lol along with a flashlight a spare and my OEM jack and whatnot

I always have a portable air compressor, blanket, medical kit, arctic sleeping bag, quart of oil (never know if you can get your brand at a random gas station), flashlight, and poncho.
