Question Read this and try to help PLEASE!

Hey guys. I have a 99 civic si. I put a new clutch in it yesterday. I also put a new valve cover gasket on it. When I put everything back together and started it up, it wants to putter badly for about 1-2 mins. I can either give it a little bit of gas and its alright after it warms up.

But it acts like it wants to die when I start it. In fact it will once, then it will warm up after a minute on the second start. What can this be? It wasn't acting like this before I replaced the clutch and gasket cover. It is also idleing at 1 1/2k, when it use to idle at 1k.? Any advice on what to check?

Do you let your fuel pump juice up before starting the engine?

Re: Read this and try to help PLEASE!

always reset the ecu and do the idle learn after playing with any major engine component. drive the car til it reaches operating temp. shut off the car, disconnect battery for 10 secs, then reconnect. start car and let it idle in park or neutral for 10 mins without pressing the gas or using any accessories or lights. shut engine off, then restart. idle should now be set to factory specs. if that doesnt fix it, clean out the air intake system (throttle body, idle air valve, fast idle valve) and redo the idle learn. make sure the valve cover is correctly seated and not leaking air. sometimes even with the gasket seated properly, you need to run the car and heat it up a few times so it molds into shape.

What does that do? Is that reseting the ecu, or is that doing the idle learn?
-thankz

the ecu is reset by disconnecting the battery, the idle learn is done by letting it idle for 10 mins.

when starting the car, turn the car to ON, then wait a few secs for the pressure to build up, then crank the engine to start. it will always start better/faster doing that. if you listen you will hear the buzzing sound before you start the engine.
