It doesn't sound like either of you have a conceptual grasp of how an engine works N/A versus forced induction. The answer is yes, you can get big power out of pretty much any N/A engine, there were a few guys that broke the world record for a 1/4 mile on a naturally aspirated engine and actually did it in a Civic. I just spent 10 minutes trying to find the video on YouTube for you but couldn't find it. The problem in the argument is that forced induction will do it for you much easier and much cheaper. The same thing with nitrous oxide, it burns at a different rate and (I'm assuming) changes the compression ratio? I'm getting into things I don't know too much about now.

Re: Help Everyone Read

on a d? not power gains that will rival any form of forced induction, but it is possible to get some gains. there are only a select few who are actually building the d's n/a, but i believe those members are building their motors with boost in mind for the future.

honda designed the d to be a reliable motor that would provide above average fuel economy - not perform like a race engine. some members on here will tell you that 160hp n/a on the d is near impossible, which i would tend to agree with. rationally, i think that 140whp on a n/a d-series is pretty damn good, but not anywhere close to the numbers a boosted car is going to be putting down.

edit* i typed this at the same time that dex responded. i know which civic you are talking about, but i approached this question thinking about big power gains, not good 1/4 mile times in a very light car (which i believe was the dvs sponsored civic?).
