vtec solenoid 02 civic?

well here is my problem
02 civic ex 1.7 vtec
when the car gets to about 4000 rpms
the check engine light comes on
it starts to hesitate to the point that its about to die
under 4k rpms it runs fine
and it only does it some times
no method behind it ( like being cold or hot etc.)
and sometimes the light goes off and the car runs fine
checked all the fluids
i had the timing belt replaced, tune up, o2 sensors replaced
all this $ into the car and its still a runs like ****

i have looked at countless messaage boards and all seems to point to a bad or dirty vtec solenoid?
any suggestions or any one have any simalar problems?
any one have a pic of the solenoid where it is?

Re: vtec solenoid 02 civic?

replaced the v-tec solenoid
for 200$ part & labor
that finally fixed the problem

after 700$ for timing belt and 150$ for eletric load detector and 200$ worth of tune up

Re: vtec solenoid 02 civic?

wow. and i bet it was just the screen inside that was clogged. i fixed mine for $10 and an hour of my time. the solenoid rarely fails on its own. i think anything over 450 for a timing belt is ripoff. and most people get eld (or the whole fuse box) from a junkyard for $50
