Engine Knocking

I have a 97 Civic LX with the Non Vtec engine in it. During the summer the engine run decent, gas mileage could be better but right now during the winter my engine knocking is BAD. Like its almost audible over regular music playing on the radio. It just gets louder as you rev up until the engine warms up a bit. Also I have starting problems when my fuel gets low which I think I have found to be a fuel pressure problem, How do I need to go about fixing that as well. Thanks.

Chances are that neither one of those problems are simple and/or easy to fix. Take it to a competent mechanic you trust who will do the right thing at a fair price.

Re: Engine Knocking

What are we talking about that has to be fixed on an engine that is knocking. Does this mean It will lead to further problems if I dont fix it?

i had almost the same problem..well sounds like it anyways, it was my water ump that went bad. i would start it and once it got warmed up you could hear it really bad, like a tickin. a new one ran me about $300, they had to pull my motor to replace it though. but check and see if your leakin coolant

Re: Engine Knocking

ok well chances are that u ran low on oil an that knocking that ur hearing is ur A-rod is banging up and down on ur crankshaft when it fires. im pretty sure thats it cuz it happened to me. u can replace the rod bearings but the problem is probably that the crank shaft is worn out and that means that u have to replace it, by the way a new one costs $900, yeah, and depending on the a rods that u have u have to get specific ones that match cuz suposedly there are different sizes for those bearings and u wud have to take off the oil pan and check the stamping on each rod. but b4 u do all this just take ur oil pan off and check if one or all of the a-rods have any play. ill check up in this thread later. pm me if you have any questions.
