tach works, speedo doesn't
Subscribetitle says it all (almost)
it's a 92 civic, 4 door AT. The tach works fine, but no speed is being recorded (or mileage, for that matter). Is this an electrical thing somewhere? I assume the sensor from the trans is working, since I am getting a good rpm signal. Suggestions?
Also, where do you guys find body panels/parts for these cars? I need a hood, front and read bumper cover in white as well front turn signals. Is this going to be a problem, and/or how much should I expect to spend?
thanks

if the mileage isnt being recorded i wouldnt worry about it.. lol.. but no seriously i have a 95 coupe man trans that does the same thing.. if u look on the back side of the transmission there should be a sensor that sticks up.. well u have an auto so it might be different.. but look on the back side of the trans and see if u can find a sensor that screws into the trans.. thats yur speedo sensor.. it prolly needs to be replaced.. mine jumps around like a crackhead that needs a fix.. i think i need gauges tho.. but good luck man.. dont get pulled over man..
The tach doesn't get its information from the speed sensor (I don't think). I believe the tach signal comes in from the distributor or something like that. So, if I'm right, do what Xhondatech said to do and check your speed sensor on the trans.
I'll take a look. Should I be looking to replace the sensor or the cable? Good to know speed is measured separate from rpm. thanks
I would guess you should probably have to replace the sensor. Check the wire and connections before you do replace anything though
wow. the connector plugged into the trans is GONE GONE GONE. It looks like it burned through itself pretty well. I think the sensor is probably fine, but I'm not quite sure what happened to the melted/burned connector but now I need a new one. Quick google search seems to yield no results, so I'm not sure where to find one -- should I just go to the dealer?
Ok, I have a new sensor and a new electrical connector, but don't know where the wires go. I have the haynes manual, and it appears to be wrong.
It says there is a black and two yellow/blue wires going to the sensor, when really it is a black, a yellow/blue and a yellow/white. Can someone take a look at their sensor and tell me which wire goes where? I'm mostly worried about sending power to the wrong pin and burning it out again.
Thanks
