Good old legal tint question

Feel like an idiot asking this question but... I've found online that in NY State the legal tint is 70% (Barely anything). I have friends and several kids that swear 35% is the legal limit. I'm really looking to tint my 07 civic si and paint my calipers...but the last thing I want to have is some cop pulling me over simply cause of my tints...Does anyone really know the legal tint % in NY State?

Thanks.

Re: Good old legal tint question

it is 70%, you can have the back windshield as dark as you want but most cops that arent dicks are not gonna pull you over just cause of the tints, bunch of my friends are rolling around with 20%

Re: Good old legal tint question

I think the back side windows can also be as dark as you want. The front sides, as mentioned, have to be 70%, and you can't tint the front windshield at all. Quite a few of the cops i've talked to at work, say they won't mess with you, as long as they can see you through the window. In my experience, tint is something they bring up when they've already pulled you over for something else. I don't know of anyone getting pulled over for just tint.

Re: Good old legal tint question

So the next question, what are people getting away with, or what can I get away with and is that % even worth doing...I'm not going to tint to 70% but I would go for like 35%.

Thanks.

Re: Good old legal tint question

My GF was pulled over twice for tint only. Funny story actually (not to her). We were heading out to the Body World exhibit and get pulled over for tint on her Accord. Her Dad had given her the Accord with the front windows tinted (illegal here in CA) so he piad to have it taken off. While it was in the shop he let her drive his 540i BMW. Well she only had it for a day and got pulled over again for tint on the front windows of the BMW...

Did she receive tickets? And I've heard nightmares about windshield tinting...I think 35% might serve nicely, not get hogged on and still be dark enough.

Anyone know anywhere good for getting tints around New York, around exit 15-18 on the NYS Thruway....

yea she got tickets for both...

what im going to do is get either 5 or 15% on the back and rear side windows and then 35% on the front windows so it has a good contrast and then maybe a strip across the windshield for when that sunset/sunrise decides to blind ya...

Re: Good old legal tint question

Front strip is really nice in utility, or looks? I'm sure its fantastic for utility, but for some reason I find them to look rather hideous...Going to search for my car with a strip ;p

Thanks.
