I need to know if anyone out there can tell me why the hell my car is backfiring while downshifting from third to second gear???

how big is ur exhaust piping? if u have to big of exhaust piping for the exhaust will start baffling (when the exhaust isnt being pushed out its jus sitting there at the end of the pipe) u have no back pressure threw the piping,resinator,cat,and muffler. if u have no backpressure then the motor will start carbonizing even faster on the exhaust side of the head. did u cut your exhaust off? u mite have a bad cat like all the stuffing in the cat could have burned away and now ur piping is two big and will start baffling in the cat.

also check the header gasket and the exhaust dounut that in between the cat and header
