You also said you had a SE???
I dont think civics came in SE's dude.. Unless you from a different country but I believe EK civics only came in CX,DX, HX, EX, & SI.
if you already have vtec I'm assuming you have the EX or HX line. if you do have the HX trim then you wont be satisfied with that motor at all. If you already got the EX then you already got the 1.6 vtec and swapping heads would be useless unless if you had a DX motor for the mini-me swap.
And based on your post it seems like you probably wouldnt be able to to the head swap so my best bet for you is like I said above. If you want to keep that motor. hit the bottle for cheap HP or go turbo.
Otherwise start off with a B-series motor then build your way up.
an intake and exhaust will just free some air thus releasing some HP but it wont be much.
dude, there are ppl on this forum from canada, australia uk AFRICA even so chill out... you dont know everything there is to know... and you've complained abotu ppl not reading their stuff but you didn't read in the first post he said he has a 1.6 liter non v-tec... so just tell him where to get the head he asked or get off the thread.....

Dear Mod,
My Post weren't bashing him you know. If you read my posts you'll see I didnt even write anything in a bad way to Bdub. it's not like I said "Dude, civics didnt come in SE's so learn your shizzos before you post."
It reads - "I dont think civics came in SE's dude.. Unless you from a different country but I believe EK civics only came in CX,DX, HX, EX, & SI."
And so I missed one point when he mentioned the "1.6 liter non v-tec".
The SE part threw me off as SE's are usually a pretty high model that would come with vtec.
And I dont ever really recall telling anyone to read there stuff before posting MOD.
You're just makin it seem like I'm tryin to start an argument with him. I did ask him if he was from a different country. I also answered some of his questions too but I may have gave him the information for the opposite thing.
Am I now getting banned from posting this:
And to answer his question:
You can swap in a d16z6 head onto your motor. That is called a Mini-Me stemming from the LS/Vtec/Frankenstein. You'll get more torque with your high ends. You're gonna need a new ECU, and run some new wiring and maybe even a new OBD2B vtec engine harness to ease with the swap. but for the pain, money, & power. I'd just do a whole swap.
But if it were me, I'd just recommend swappin in a d16z6 motor or go B series. But that's me and not you.
They're really not that expensive.
I/H/E really wont help much rather then maybe freeing a couple of ponies and better sound. When I still had my DX motor(1.6 non-vtec) in my 97 hatch I took it to the track on a free test and tune day and ran 16.0. That aint bad for a DX. Was beatin LS' all day long. Your motor wouldnt be too bad to boost either.
Or like I said, B series all the way and build yourself from there.
My 2cents.
Did this help at all. just say no and I'll leave the thread.
hey Bdub. so, I am assuming that you have a D16Y7 motor? if you do, then you could go with a D16Y8 head swap, that way you can stay with your car's year on the motor, and the swap will be a little easier. I know a guy on one of the other forums i'm on selling a D16Y8 head. if you wanna check him out, it's on JDMChat.com there was also another guy on the same site selling a whole D16Y8 motor fo pretty cheap, and it was already modified. shipping costs weren't that bad either, and I don't think it would be much more to ship to canada from the shipping price they gave me cause I live pretty close to canada, in northern North Dakota. Oh, and in case if you are wondering what a D16Y8 is, it is the SOHC Vtec motor that comes in USDM Civic EX's from 96-00. However, if you do the head swap, you will need the ECU for a D16Y8, and Manual Transmission ECUs for the Vtec motor are a little bit harder to find, but maybe check out your local junk yard, or eBay. Hope I helped a little. Laterz bro. and good luck. (post some pictures of your motor so we can determine which motor you have) =)

I suggest doing it with a VAFC 2 for a couple reasons its a less of a hassel because all you need is a head gasket and the head itself and your good to go and it's probably cheaper than buying an ECU and also the wiring harness because being that its non-vtec its stock harness will not have any wiring for the vtec. Then you will need to get it towed to a dealership so they can reflash your ECU and key just so you can start up the car.
The VAFC 2 is indeed a piggback controller that lets you be able to program when you want your vtec to kick in and has a whole bunch of other settings that i still have to read about. The only problem is that you will need to buy a A/f guage because while the vafc 2 kicks in vtec your ECU doesnt know to add more fuel when this happens so you can either tune it yourself or take it somewhere and get it tuned
